Winter 2023/24 - It's FREEZING!

Oh there's loads of shorts lunatics about, at least the cyclists are keeping warm with exercise, the ones on two feet are just relying on burning belly fat, of which there's plenty. I'm sure they think wearing shorts in Winter makes them look like they're some sort of "Chad" but in reality they just look like clowns.

I wear shorts whatever the weather, come at me bro.

We've had light snow in the air all day but nothing settling.

People already panic buying around here :( its literally as light as it could get and nothing more forecast.
It’s the tins of soup that fly off the shelves when the mention of snow is in the weather forecast.

I do wonder don’t people have store cupboards full of tins, packs etc?

I’ve always had a store cupboard. Which I was bloody glad about in March 2020. As one of the few people who didn’t ransack the shelves in shops!

We had a couple of inches of snow overnight on Tuesday but it's no too bad really. Ice is what we need to look out for as the warmest we have been during the day is 1.4 degrees and that was only briefly before falling again. Yesterday we had a "high" of 1.1 dregrees C!! Currently it's back down to -0.5 dgrees C here and falling. It's a lovely clear sky though and the starscape later will be gorgeous.

Yesterday I had to go over "the hill" (1109 feet) on the Dufftown to Huntly road which was "interesting". Once you have climbed to the summit there is a series of twisty bends about half a mile further on and looking at the skidmarks in the snow someone not far ahead of me pushed it too hard and firstly lost the front end as it slid to the opposite side of the road, then back to the correct side before going back to the opposite side and then got a crazy tank slapper on as they fishtailed for the next 50m or so before clipping the hedge on the left side with the rear wheel and spinning. It looks like they then did a three point turn to get facing back towards Huntly again (probably a change of pants too). I soon came across a white van crawling along at 20 mph so it could have been him although with the fishtailing I would have thought it was a RWD car. A hour later on the return home the road was much worse as it had been heavily snowing again and that road has some horrible tight downhill right corners that are bad enough in clear conditions let alone heavy snow so everyone was crawling along and quite rightly so.

you don't keep warm unless you layer up as normal, you might need to unzip your outside layer an inch but thats all
It;s worse on a bike than walking even because of the frozen wind you feel

Its actually getting a bit chilly now, might even have to put the shorts away.
I asked my adult son if he wanted to come round mine at 1:30am last night and he came in shorts lol...

seen people outside clearly heading for a night out in a tshirt at 0c too

I;m wearing a thermal vest and jumper just in the house with the heating at 20

need to know if these short wearers have low heating bills - do they have the courage of their convictions and have the heating off , iced tea , cold showers ...
or, just, namby pamby Bali in the living room wimps.

Not a fan of iced tea, prefer a nice coffee or a cold can of Pepsi max.

As for the heating its been on for around 2 hours today, just enough to take the nip out of the air.

Oh and still in shorts :p

No heating on yet this winter, 2 degree's outside, 14 degree's inside, I have just put a jumper on 1st time this winter

The minimum temperature for health indoors is 18 degrees - below this you are at increased risk of respiratory infection. At 14 degrees there is a risk of pneumonia

Thank goodness for Christmas jumpers at work! Just need January and February jumpers.

Which reminds me to dig them out of the loft. Use my shorts/summer trousers drawer to put them in

Just got in from a job and found the heating on 20deg  and daughter blissfully wearing only summer clothing.

Quickly turned it back down to 17

I quite agree. 17 is plenty warm enough indoors in the winter. As soon as the temperature nears 18 or 19 indoors from central heating it does not feel all that nice, I cannot explain how that works but 16 or 17 is as much as I have ever wanted or needed indoors during the colder months.
