Winter Transfer window 24/25

I know that's a joke but Sky making the transfer window into an event in its own right is one of the worst things that has happened to football. The obsession some supporters now have with transfers is getting silly, to the point that I genuinely believe that buying a new player is more important than a win for them.

Anyway, I've just seen that Juve have announced the signing of Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle. If I'm @Bigpig right now, I'd be trying to work out who Newcastle are planning to sign from Juve in the summer because that's got to be a PSR fiddle.

I don't think Tel would have been the answer at striker, but for £5m it could have been worth a go.

I understand why the club held off, but we are woefully short in attack as Hojlund and Zirkzee just seem hopeless at the moment.

Given the scrutiny Amorim is under, it feels like they've failed him in this window.

Arsenal linked with anyone who has a pulse, god bless those agents using us to get a better deal for mid players.
Called it back in December.

Not surprised we didn’t do anything, looks like we are gearing up for a summer refresh.

In fairness it's very difficult for Utd to justify spending this window unless they're signing a longterm target. The League is over for you. You're not getting relegated and you're not making the European spots. All that's left are the Cups and it's hard to quantify (with any certainty) how much a signing will improve your chances to win a cup.

Providing this is a calculated, rational decision from Utd to keep their powder dry then it shouldn't impact Amorim. The key is whether the board hold their nerve if things don't improve because the outside noise is going to get louder the more Utd struggle.

£17m profit in 6 months, can’t moan at that

Those are my thoughts too, our sole focus should be trying to win the Europa League. Doesn't matter if we finish 10th or 15th in the league really.

My biggest fear is Ratcliffe being the angry man we all think he is, and he sacks Amorim and Berrada because he doesn't understand football. Ashworth was the highlight of the new footballing structure and that went up in smoke after 5 minutes. I'm not sure who decided to give Jason Wilcox free rein to run everything... not exactly a glittering CV.

Jim's history with retaining managers at Nice isn't the best but if he has decided to write this season off and leave the manager with a weaker squad than he started the window with, you'd hope that the manager doesn't carry the can for poor performances moving forwards.

All that's easier said than done though and as I said earlier today re Rashford, Utd's a pretty toxic club right now and you need a good run of results and performances to break that. You already see on here and twitter and the like, supporters are turning on Ratcliffe and even the manager.

Interesting they managed to get an option to buy in there... if we could have done the same it would have made more sense to pay that upfront loan fee.

There's certainly a bit of back scratching going on. I posted it a few pages ago. Out of contract at Bournemouth and signed on a free. Started 7 games for a side that has had 2 centre backs and a fullback injured all season, then goes to a club of that stature for 20 mil.

There's no reason why Utd wouldn't have been able to. It was obvious from the fact that Bayern were open to selling that a loan + option was always on the table and Bayern weren't going to accept that from Spurs but not Utd. Utd probably just decided that the £5m or whatever loan fee didn't represent value given what you've got left to play for this season.
I wonder if Bayern owe money for Kane still? Is that the bargaining chip Levy had?
Unless Bayern were at risk at not affording to pay whatever they owe then I'm not sure how it would be a factor.

Yea and Juve are kings of the FFP fiddle. After getting stung for the Arthur/Pjanic fiddle they might want to make this one less obvious by doing it over two transfer windows. Or we've all just become massive cynics.
