Wired or Wireless

Any difference technically that would mean wired is better/faster/lower ping than wireless?

Context being Xbox live.

I can't help thinking that wired is a much better connection for gaming?

Thanks
Depends which room your xbox 360 is in. If it's living room and long way from router then it's better to have wireless.

Wireless or not, I do sometimes get the lags from servers/players! Wireless is nothing to worry about! :)

Where is the lag coming from?

As long as your wireless connection maintains a steady connection rate greater than your maximum download/upload speed then surely the only lag would be either server-side lag or saturation of your up/downstream bandwidth.

Can't understand why people can't understand this?

Exactly. Never mind last mile, you're talking last metre.

If your XBox is in the same room as your router then Wired would be preferable in terms of ease of setting up and the face you'll save dropping £60 on a wireless adapter. If your XBox is in a different room then Wireless is the way to go, it's so not worth digging up your house to pant wires :p

That depends, my PS3 is 4 meters away from the router but on the other side of the living room, IMO it is much more trouble getting a CAT5 cable along the skirting board from the router to the PS3 than inputting the SSID and WPA codes.

I would've gone under the floorboards for that one, but this is all about effort at the end of the day. Wireless is more than capable of doing the job and is the easiest to set up, but for a job that would take me half an hour to do IMO it's not worth the £60 it would cos for the wireless addon. It's all personal preference at the end of the day though.

I went through the trouble of running cat 5 through the walls and up into the ceiling and back down through the wall. I found it cheaper than splashing out for the wireless adapter on the 360, and then since i had gone through the trouble, i thought i'm only a switch away from running a wired connection for my ps3.. Which is whatever way you look at it....better !
