Wireless Router question

Guys, just moved into a new place and hooked up with a 10meg Virgin cable connection. Due to the location of the modem though, I need a wireless router to connect my PC which is in my room at the other end of the flat.

I've never dabbled with wireless before though and want to know if a standard 54Mbps router will restrict the max theoretical download speed of my 10Meg line.

I've managed to max my line speed when using wired connections in the past, and I appreciated this isn't always possible, but will a 54Mbps router be able to handle this too with a 10meg line? Or do I need to look into a 108/300Mbps one?

Cheers

Well your internet is 10Mbps, the router is 54Mbps...there is 44Mbps space left. ;)

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure, and knowing my luck I'd gamble it then be stuck!

The PC is going to be located through a number of walls and about 30ft from the router, should I be looking at routers with increased range such as:

This?

That should be fine. We have a wireless router in the warehouse at work and computers around 40ft away can pick up the signal, and they are surrounded by steel racking.

Consider homeplug ethernet over mains wiring instead, more likley to work reliably over that sort of distance with walls and may be cheaper than an enhanced range wifi router and adapter.
