Wireless with Blueyonder help please!

First time poster and getting really narked with this now.

Got Blueyonder (Virign) Broadband using a Motorola SB5101E Surfboard modem. Bought a MSI RG60SE 108M Wireless router. Using Windows Vista, what's the best way to sync them together and with my PC?

Tried to connect them up tonight with my father-in-law who works in the IT business and was unsuccessful.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Has your PC got a wireless Card or are you trying to hardwire to the wireless router?

I'm trying to connect the PC with the router with an Ethernet cable. The laptop has built in wireless card and is recognising the new network, as is the desktop, but neither will connect to the Internet (using IE7)

Hi

have you powered of the virgin media modem and also the router for 5 minutes then switch on the modem wait 5 minutes and then switch on the router.

Try this first as had to do that everytime I have changed router on my BlueYonder connection.

Indeed, once you have connected the router to the modem you need to power down the modem and then power it back on again to gain Internet access on the Blueyonder network, this is to allow the modem to recognise the new MAC address of the router and publish that to Blueyonder..

Just tried both of your suggestions and still nothing. Vista claims it is connected to an "unidentified network" when on the Network & Sharing Centre via Control Panel. The link between the PC and the network icon is green but there's the red X between the network and Internet.

My last resort is to ring up the Virgin Media premium rate phone number to sort all this out. I'm getting so frustrated with it all and am becoming desperate.

Look at the network card that was originally connected to your BY modem.
From a command prompt type 'ipconfig /all'

Look for the MAC address of the network card that used to be connected directly to the modem.

Then, in the router setup/config pages, look for the option to 'clone' i.e. use the network card MAC address in the router. Save and exit the management panel.

Or, unplug your modem from the mains as suggested above for a while. May need to be greater than 10 minutes.

So you can talk to the router etc? If so, do you have any software firewalls on the machine?

have you checked that the connection on the modem is actually working as in connect directly to the modem using ethernet cable and try to browse the internet.

Just a long shot but check that the MS firewall hasnt activated itself when you connected the router. Can you access the router ie 192.168.1.1 ( or something similar) I really should read all the post - vicar asked more or less the same thing
