Hi there,

We have Wifi setup in our house. Perfect for mine and my dads laptops. Now, my mum has just got a new pc off a family member. Tried to connect it directly to the router like the last pc but no joy. Cant get the driver to work for the ethernet socket on the mobo.

Anyway, we've got a wireless network adapter here which should allow the pc to be wireless.

Now it does'nt come with any software etc. So I searched on Linksys website. Found the right model, (Linksys Wireless B USB Network Adapter).

Ive downloaded the driver and manual. In the manual it says that it should be plug and play. Plug it in and windows picks it up and should install it, well it does'nt.

So I go to install the driver. Click on the driver setup and it does'nt run or anything. All I can do is open the wireless utility from Linksys but that wont run as the driver is'nt installed.

How the hell can I get this wireless adapter to work? Its really starting to annoy me now...

Thanks, Help much appreciated...

Ben

seeing as the computer isn't on the net yet, try disabling all anti-virus and firewalls on the computer, sometimes they can cause problems with installers. what happens when windows finds it?

It found it the first time I plugged it in. Did'nt find any drivers for it.

After that, everytime I plug it in, windows does'nt even recongise it.

hmmm, do a search on you computer for any files relating to the wireless adapter and delete them, then disable your anti-virus/firewall, install the drivers then plug in the adapter. what OS is it running?

Win XP Pro.

Cant get to the machine right now to disable firewall etc, will try that tomorrow.

Thanks.

id go to device manager - find the device in the drop down list and delete it - reboot - then when you plug it in the next time it will ask to search for a driver again
