I'm having all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and was wondering if any other people on here have had their wisdom teeth out?

If so, how painful is it for the following days and when can I expect to start feeling back to normal?

I've been told by someone at work that it'll hurt for a while afterwards and want to know what i'm letting myself in for (can't change my mind now anyway!) so don't sugarcoat it.

Thanks in advance :)

Matt

my mate was out of it for a week after having it down meant to be proper painful i've had one come through but had no probs with it so not bothered getting it taken out .

I've had 2 out so far.
This 1 was a bit of a pain because the roots had curved in. :o

The pain afterwards isn't too bad, jaw ached for a few days afterwards.
Still a lot better then when the teeth were in, little buggers hurt like hell.

Now, root canals...

I've not had my wisdom teeth thorugh yet, So have I got that pain to come too?
Cheers for the replies so far. :)

Mine aren't painful but after a visit to the dentist he reckoned if I didn't have the bottom ones taken out then they'd affect the ones next to them. As it's on the NHS I agreed to get it done.

i like the thought of having wisdom teeth, mine are only just starting to come through on the botom, i think im going to keep them :)

2 removed at dentist with a local. No problems and no swelling at all. :D

Other 2 removed under general at hospital due to root problems necessitating cutting the jawbone open.

A fair bit of swelling on that occasion. :(

Yeah me too that’s why when I was given the choice to remove it or have the root canal done I picked the latter. Now I know it’s going to hurt but didn’t want to lose the tooth really!

3 of 4 wisdom teeth in my mouth had faults when they came through, top left, top right and bottom right.

Now i take pride in the fact that at 25 i have still got zero fillings, despite hardly visiting the dentist. It pee'd me off having to have the first one removed (top left), quick injection and it was out.

However, over the next year the bottom right one started to come to pieces to the point that it looked like /| instead of a full tooth. Very close to the nerve and vein. The dentist injected me, half of it ran down my face so it didnt take and he had to redo it. He took the top one out first and then took a hammer and chisel to the bottom one. Made me feel slightly sick tbh.

2 days off work though as i wasnt allowed to do anything that causes my heart to beat above resting!

Only had one out and I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all, took about 10seconds (injections hurt a lot more and they aren’t to bad). Fair amount of blood after so chewing on the cotton tampon thing is a must (get a small handful of them!) Jaw hurt for 3-4 days after and the hole that was left is now almost gone, that was about 18months ago now.

Seriously it's not that bad, didn't even realise he had taken the tooth out by the time he had.

I had 2 of mine out under general, the pain is fine on the day. The worst bit is when they put you to sleep not the actual operation. The day after the pain is at its worst so take pain killers, I couldn't open my mouth that much afterwards. Took about a week to heal :)

Had bottom two out, didnt hurt during but omg it hurt like hell afterwards!
One of gums was sown to my cheek! The stiches didn't disolve as they shouyld have and so I had an infection, when the stiches were removed my gum disattached from my cheek!

Was out for about two weeks, but as said they got infected so it will probably be less painful!

EDIT: I was a man and wasn't knocked out! :D

Both of mine had to be cut out, but it wasn't under general.

Can't remember what the drug was called, the 1st time I was on a drip, the 2nd time it was an injection. I was semi-conscious during the whole thing but don't remember most of it.

About 10 minutes after they finished up, I was allowed to leave, even if a bit unsteady on my feet :p
Went home and went straight to bed to sleep it off, woke up to a blood soaked pillow though.

I left mine in for as long as possible, but they caused countless gum infections and untold pain.

I've had 2 out, first one was fairly straightforward and aside from a bit of an aching jaw for a day or so afterwards everything was hunky dory.

The second one was a bit more traumatic as the root had snared itself round the jawbone a bit and my dentist had to leave a small bit of it in. It then developed an abcess which took 2 separate courses of antibiotics to clear up and ruined a Manics concert for me as I couldnt drink or jump around :(

The abcess must be one of the worst pains Ive ever experienced, not particularly acute but a constant feeling of pressure which stops you getting to sleep at night and leaves you feeling completely run-down.

Yeah, should probably have added that I'm having them removed at the hospital under general anestethic as I think there may be root problems with the bottom 2. Only in as a day patient though, have to be in at 7.30am for it. Also the hospital have signed me off work for a week already. :(
