I'm having all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and was wondering if any other people on here have had their wisdom teeth out?

If so, how painful is it for the following days and when can I expect to start feeling back to normal?

I've been told by someone at work that it'll hurt for a while afterwards and want to know what i'm letting myself in for (can't change my mind now anyway!) so don't sugarcoat it.

Thanks in advance :)

I've not had my wisdom teeth thorugh yet, So have I got that pain to come too?
Cheers for the replies so far. :)

Mine aren't painful but after a visit to the dentist he reckoned if I didn't have the bottom ones taken out then they'd affect the ones next to them. As it's on the NHS I agreed to get it done.

2 removed at dentist with a local. No problems and no swelling at all. :D

Other 2 removed under general at hospital due to root problems necessitating cutting the jawbone open.

A fair bit of swelling on that occasion. :(
Yeah, should probably have added that I'm having them removed at the hospital under general anestethic as I think there may be root problems with the bottom 2. Only in as a day patient though, have to be in at 7.30am for it. Also the hospital have signed me off work for a week already. :(

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

I expect I'll be too out of it tomorrow to post on here but will hopefully let you know how it went on Friday!

If I was about to go in for anything like this, the last thing I'd want to do is post on the forums and hear everyones horror stories heh.
Already heard a couple of horror stories from people at work and also had a warning from the hospital themselves that it'll be painful for a while afterwards.

The way I figure it is to prepare for the worst rather than expecting an easy op and getting hit with the pain after!

I had all four taken out at a dental hospital, sure there was slight swelling (and i mean slight) but i dont recall it being really painfull. I recall my jaw being stiff for around a week. I think a lot depends on the person, some people might swell more than others and everyone has a differnet pain threshold................its probably not going to be as bad as you may think. Dont worry about it.
This sounds like how mine went.

They had to cut open my lower jaw to get the bottom 2 out but it seems to have gone ok. There's a bit of pain and my jaw aches (can't fully open my mouth yet without a lot of pain). Other that that it's ok - not a painful as I was anticipating. The only real trouble is that the wounds don't appear to have fully healed so I get blood in my mouth but apparantly that's normal for a day or so.

Am looking forward to being able to eat again - was told to stick to custard / angel delight for a day before moving onto soups as apparantly I should avoid hot things to start with (might give lukewarm tomato soup a runout later).

Thanks for the replies guys, think they helped prepare me for the worst which is why I'm not feeling too bad!!
