I 100% agree this is a really good idea, I myself have been searching for these Goldust cards since launch but am yet to even get close to one. Fair enough for anyone lucky enough to get a voucher, even starting your account now I can guarantee that stock will still be a huge shortage. Got to start somewhere, right?

for all the talk of MM only deals not being fair to others (me included!) i think its a good idea and fair play to those who grabbed one and to OCUK for trying to do the right thing..

858 non spam posts to go

and then nobody gets them because bots buy all the stock faster than an end user can respond. We've got proof of that from a previous website glitch which allowed bots to place literally thousands of orders in a matter of minutes. We had to cancel them all but still...that's the reality. There's a reason why pretty much every GPU on the website is OFF sale.
TIL overclockers UK doesn't have any anti bot measures,
..... which means I could use bot to gather 1000+ posts over next few weeks

jk... pls don't ban me, Im still in the queue since September just very impatient I want to feel some of those glorious RTX games...
just realized Im saying too much in one post, this could easily be divided and sent in 5 different posts :D

we do, they don't work. Cloudflare only blocks a small proportion of bots, mostly older ones which ping constantly rather than sitting waiting for a cache update and we tried Captcha, that didn't work either. Most modern bots can now fool this too.

Damn, it makes complete sense and I get it, glad it works for people who are in the MM. I have used OCUK since 2011 for literally all my PC needs, but never touched the forums, hindsight is 2020

Ok, Im not really sure about infrastructure at ocuk and what has already been suggested but how difficult would it be given your current ERP system to generate individual and unique codes and email them to every OCUK forum member who would opt in and be interested in such deal.

What I mean by that is lets say for 3070 we would have 100k+ different GUIDs each one send to different forum member, when someone decides to buy 3070 during checkout process we would remove that GUID from lists of available valid voucher codes, this would ensure even if someone leaks it wouldn't really work. IF we want to be super strict we could tie each code against user details.

If we want to avoid mass spam ocuk could create landing page where you have to log in using your forum details, and once logged it would generate your unique discount codes

Sounds like a good idea hopefully they can do something like this.

Its not exclusive. Its open to anyone who actively participates in the forum.

So exclusive to very active forum members... I'm using exclusive correctly here.

I like that they are trying to fight bots but that doesn't mean it doesn't really suck to be a customer that can't get in on the deal because I don't use the forums(also forums in 2021? I feel like I'm 14 again seeing this format).

yes because they are persistent sources of information, unlike the very passive social media platforms. People can come, ask questions and/or search for answers to similar questions and those members who are active and help the community are given access to a moderated place where they can buy and sell hardware without having to resort to troll central (i.e. eBay)
