Witcher 3 1440p 980 ti Performance

no you need to RMA your card

What nonsense. Hairworks obliterates FPS in this game.

witcher-bench-1080-u.jpg

For an example, showing the same dips asia23fab is mentioning

There's many other examples of this. Witcher 3 is the new Crysis so to speak.

I'm not sure why we're so different as core clock is similar. Maybe I'll hit lower frames in bad weather etc?

Why not fast travel somewhere and look at the fps as soon as it loads, then compare with other people with 980Ti on the same settings. That would be a relatively accurate comparison?

Did more testing today and found that I get slowdowns just running though a dense forest with relativity normal weather. Even standing still i was getting around 53-57fps with everything set to ultra. Would you be able to post your in-game settings and any other nvidia cp settings you may have set?

Settings are everything Ultra with Hairworks off. In NCP I have performance set to "prefer maximum performance". I have also disabled nvidia streamer service in local services. Shadow play is also disabled.

Fast travel to Crows Perch and without moving anywhere post back with your fps. I'll do the same.

Ok, I have set my settings exactly the same as yours above and after fast travelling to Crows Perch standing still I get a solid 60fps (62fps with vsync disabled). However If I run towards the forest from the way point immediately drops to 55fps; further into the forest i get between 45-54fps. (Weather was normal and frames dropped regardless of vsync on or off)

Also when in the forest outside of Freyas Garden on one of the Skellige islands standing still I get 47-50fps.......

Edit - I'm running the 353.30 driver.
Edit 2 - Out of curiosity I ran the game in 1080p with all options set to ultra, hbao+ and even hairworks on everything, and in the same area stated above I get a rock solid 60fps. Even fought a couple of enemies in the forest and no slowdown whatsoever....

After running the game maxed with Hairworks on @2160p and seeing how smooth and sharp it ran it came as a bit of a shock to see how much you lose @1080p.

Tell you're new around here :D

We all know this, or you would hope so in a gpu enthusiasts forum... don't feed the troll!

whats the rest of your PC spec?

Do you play in full screen obvious question but really hits the framerate if windowed. ( Also i find it keeps changing back to windowed occasionally ).

Really sorry mate, I didn't see this post last night. I'll get numbers to you later.

I actually came back to this thread to say I had more time to play this last night and in some areas I was hitting 90+ fps. The average seems to be around 70 for me but definitely no dips below 60.

I'll post numbers for Crows Perch later (too busy right now).

OK, did the same.

80 fps when it loads at Crows Perch, dipping to 70fps as I run towards the forest and further in it dips to 65 then back up to 70 odd.

If looking towards the forest at Freyas Garden, I drop to 65fps.

Here's my settings...

Thanks for those screenshots String, that's some great performance there!
I'm quite baffled now. When I get home I will run DDU wipe all settings and drivers clean and run ccleaner for any remaining registry entries and try again. I can also see that your boost clock is around 1452Mhz so I will OC my card by 100Mhz which i'm sure is possible without any voltage tweaks and will post my results asap.

Edit - Just noticed in your sig that you have an ROG switft, so i'm wondering if G-sync is at play here? but in-game you have set v-sync "off" so does that mean g-sync is not active?

Gsync is always on, especially when below the refresh rate of the monitor (currently 120Hz).

Yes, performance is stunning... And the card has some coil whine so it needs RMA'd.

Anyway, maybe someone else could test at that core and memory clock just to confirm it's your set up that's below par as opposed to mine being above. I wouldn't want you removing drivers etc only to get the same results.

Good luck.

Ran DDU and Ccleaner, re-installed drivers (clean installation) and tried again still getting fps drops.

I've seen various youtube videos showing how to get a smooth experience with all settings at ultra by limiting fps and changing a few settings in NVCP, but they just don't work for me.I tried limiting frame rate to 30, 45 and 50 by editing the user.ini file; this just causes a constant stuttering/juddering mess; regardless of what NVInspector settings I set alongside (v-sync, triple buffer, pre-rendered frames ect..). If anyone knows how to limit the fps in this game and get it running completely smooth please let me know.

Windows 10 is out soon so maybe a clean OS install is what I need. Until then I think I have tinkered enough with all the settings! So for anyone else experiencing same issues as me these are the settings I use to get a smooth and near solid 60 fps in mostly all areas at 1440p:

In-game:
- Vsync: OFF
- Framerate: UNLIMITED
- Fullscreen: ON
- All other options set to Ultra (Except for Shadows which I set to HIGH)

Post Processing:
- AA: OFF
- AO: SSAO
- All other options Enabled

NVInspector:
- Pre-rendered frames: 1
- Vsync Tear Control: Adaptive
- Vsync: Force On
- FXAA: On
- Anisotropic Filtering Mode: User-defined/Off
- Anisotropic Filtering Mode: 16x
- Texture Filtering LOD Bias (DX): -0.5000
- Power Management: Prefer Maximum Performance

Turn off those horrible and absolutely useless post processing effects. The only thing you should leave on is ambient occlusion and light shafts. The in-game AA also just blurs everything out and looks horrible.

I'm having a few probs with The Witcher on a 980ti.
Apart from the crashes I've noticed problems with the Grass. Bugs like severe pop in when only a few feet from the plants and strange stuff happening when using 3 screens.

I did find setting the Foliage Distance to Med or High totally stops the weird stutter I get when running. However as I seem to have probs with Grass anyway it might be related anyway.
