Witcher 3 1440p 980 ti Performance

If anyone knows how to limit the fps in this game and get it running completely smooth please let me know.

It just so happens that I have exactly what you need: a very nice a simple guide by Durante on pcgamer on how to get super smooth locked fps (30 or 60 depending upon how much of a beast your GPU is)

He even compares the in game frame limiter [bad] with the Rivatuner Statistic Server frame limiter [good]. Do what he suggests: he is the guy that fixed the Dark Souls 2 PC port amongst other things. The guy is a legend.

Thanks, I'll give that a go, its the only thing I have not tried. Will post back with results asap.

been playing thru this at 4k [DSR] and managing 50-60fps with 98% usage on both cards and everything on ultra incl hairworks on etc. feels pretty smooth but a part of me expected higher FPS

2 x 980ti's and i7 @ 4.7

Unfortunately even using RTSS to limit frame rate to 30/40fps using the settings in the guide and it does work; frame rate was locked but the game was just juddering/stuttering everywhere. Matter of face limiting the frame rate in NVInspector gave exactly the same result. Now that I think back I don't think I've ever successfully limited frames in any game and get it to run completely smooth.

You need to limit to 60, 30 is too low.

My reasoning behind setting 30/40fps is due to the fact the lowest frames I've seen the game drop to when all settings are enabled (minus hairworks) and set to ultra is around 47fps.
So when I set frame limit to 60 in RTSS and using all ultra settings, borderless window and vsync disabled in game, it runs great until you run into an area which causes frame rate to dive then the stuttering returns. So I again will revert to the settings I posted in this thread as its the only way the game can run completely smooth in all areas/scenarios in the game; just a shame I cant enable ultra shadows and hbao+ on a 980ti@1440p. I expected to see around 60-70fps when comparing it to my previous 780ti's performance. Still patch 1.07 should be out soon and does include performance improvements; how much I don't know but hopefully should help.
