Ok so I keep saying I will buy Witcher 3 when it goes on sale...and many sales later I have not purchased yet. It has come on sale again today though and I am thinking of just going for it. But...will I enjoy it?

Some background of what I have enjoyed in similar genres;
- Dragon Age Origins (completed multiple times)
- Fable (Original)
- WoW (1000s of hours in BC and WotLK)
- Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 (completed multiple times)
- Divinity Original Sin 2
- Mass Effect 1 and 2

However I did not like/couldn't get into;
- Dragon Age Inquisition
- Witcher 2
- Divinity Original Sin
- Mass Effect 3

For £13.99 your probably thinking why I am I even asking, but I don't these days like to waste money on games where I am unsure if I will actually complete them. I have so many games that I have bought and just cannot complete through not enjoying or just cannot get into.

So, would you buy it?

I didn't get along with Inquisition or Divinity Original Sin either, I also struggled to get through Witcher 2 as it just didn't grip me like the first Witcher did.

So I went into Witcher 3 not expecting much... but wow, it totally blew me away, one of very few games to do so. If you set aside some time and allow yourself to get into the characters, the plot and the world around you, you'll absolutely love it. The first playthrough left me speechless and I waited for all the DLC to come out before I played it again and by the end, my game file was 180 hours and I enjoyed every bit.

I didn't think I'd play a game that ever surpassed Final Fantasy 7 or Xenogears, but it does completely. It sets a new standard on what a videogame can do. I'd love to wipe my memory of the game so I could enjoy it all over again, so I envy you :p:D

I've tried several times to start it but just cannot get into it.
Was thinking of giving it one more go over the winter.

I'm sure I am in the minority however, as I've heard nothing but good things about it.

You really should give it another go. I've played games that I didn't get into at first, mostly because I was extremely busy at the time and couldn't "let myself go," only to play it again later and really enjoy it.

The best way I'd describe Witcher 3 is like finding yourself standing inside a great dark fantasy novel. It's so well realised.

I don't usually like fantasy games and the only RPGs I've ever really enjoyed were Fallout 3 and 4.

However I've recently reinstalled Witcher 3 for the 4th attempt to get into it (because of reviews), and I'm now L17 and finding it something quite special. It's a massive, complex, varied world and a really good story.

Plus there are pixel boobs.

Try and and make yourself play it for at least 10 hours before you decide.

Take your time with it, explore everything, do all the side quests and you'll have 50+ hours of amazing fun. Then do the awesome DLC expansions for another 20 hours

Loved the story, the setting and the graphics but the never ending dialogue and rubbish combat ultimately spoiled it for me and I just gave up before I finished it.
As above though, some of the side quests really memorable so don't miss out on those and I hope you love it as much as pretty much everyone else does.

Is the DLC something I would choose to do whilst playing the main story, or complete the main story and then the DLC? If I completed the story does the game end, or does it let me continue to do more? I ask as with PoE2 which I love, the DLC adds to the game with new things I can do and earn to assist me with the base game but if I completed the story I cannot go back and do whatever it is I have not yet completed. Does that make sense?

50+ hours? You must be a quick RPG-er! I had over 100 hours on the base game and over 161 with both DLCs! :)

I did the DLCs at the end, and it seemed to fit that they were played after the main story. I don't even know if you can access them before, to be honest, as I never tried.

Both expansions are meant to be played after the main story. The first one (Hearts of Stone) can be played during but I don't recommend it, it is a brilliant stand alone story that should not be wedged into the storyline of the main game. When you finish the story, you will normally keep playing and go do the DLC quests afterwards. First do Hearts of Stone, then Blood and Wine for last.

Yeah totally diffrent to PoE 2 in that one you do that final quest the games ends. With Witcher 3 the DLC is to be played after the main quest. Heart Of Stone first and Blood and Win last. The latter is pretty much created to be a farewell of sorts and was a pretty great ending to the trilogy.

Thanks for the heads up.

Very close to the end of my 2nd playthrough of PoE2 right now so should complete that tonight and will start Witcher 3 tomorrow I think. Am I going to miss out on some details if I have not completed the first and second games?

Don't play it. It will ruin every other game out there. Nothing will be as good and you will be left hollow and despondent, probably have to take up knitting to fill the void.

Nothing major missing and can easily play without. Some details will change as you can do save imports from the prior games. Without playing them some people you come across may have different interactions, but nothing major. They may also refer to some events which you may not know about, but once again not a big deal. The In game character detail page provides some background and context on characters. Plenty of youtube video's / sites showing the direction of the first two games if you do want to dig into some background before starting.
