At the risk of cross-posting, I posted about this problem in the Windows forum and it was suggested that it could be caused by my sound card drivers?

I'm just wondering if anyone else with a Creative sound card has experienced the same phenomenon, or if anyone has any idea what could be the solution? WMP is really not usable for MP3s as it stands due to this problem.

Can't say I've ever noticed with my X-Fi, though it could be completely different with an Audigy 2.

Does it cut a few seconds off and instantly play from then on or is there a blank pause and then it starts playing?

edit: just noticed your response in the other thread :o

Yes I know what you mean. Sounds like aliasing of high frequencies/wobbly sound, especially when the harddrive is active. There are loads of posts about this on Microsoft's WMP11 board, but no one official has responded.

Thing is WMP11 could be a wicked little media player. I love it and hope to base my current and future music library around it as I think the user interface is great. But there are a few annoying problems with it, the sound being one of them, and I don't know when it will be fixed.

Hope there is an update or fix soon because I might start looking for another media player.

So it is a fault with WMP11 and not something at my end then - oh well, that is disappointing but at least I know now and can stop looking for a solution :)

That file isn't on my machine, it seems. All I have installed are the drivers, not all the other crap Creative provide :) I'm not getting audio distortion, I'm just missing the first second or two of the song.
