Woking

Yeah there's quite a few. Peerzy, MisChief etc. to name a few off the top of my head. :)

Skeeter can do us a southern housewarming meet BBQ when he's moved in. :D

Just me and the GF. We want a house as we miss having a garden and she wants a cat.

Although 750 for a 2 bed flat sounds good, and cheaper than most stuff I have found.

So you would recommended Haslemere or Guildford over Woking?

Bear in mind that this was a few years ago, I'd imagine that prices would have gone up since. Personally I'd prefer Haslemere over Guildford, yes.

I live in haslemere, moved here from gford as its cheaper and a lot nicer

Ah, you must know the White Horse then :)

I'll be looking round these areas, as we'll be looking to move to a house on a line that feeds in to Weybridge.

Not Woking though, as my ex lived there and I never liked the place.

Live in and around Woking all my life, now work in Guildford and travel from Woking.

I go up to London quite regularly as I'm a season ticket holder at a London football club.

Fire away any specific questions :)

Given your sig picture and the fact you are talking about Woking, I can assume we are talking about motorsport.

All I can say is that nobody I have ever met at a certain Woking based motorsport company actually lives in Woking, they all live in Guildford or further afield, in fact most couldn't even tell me where to eat in Woking! It's a place that has a train station for nearly all of them.

That must say something :)

Guildford all the way! I'm biased though....

Woking is cheaper....thats the only pro I can think of really. In every other way Guildford is nicer!

seems unlikely based on the OP, but McLaren is quite a long way out of town and they have a shuttle bus direct from the station to the HQ as well as quite a big car park so not surprising if they don't live there that they don't see very much of it.

Used to date a girl from there a few yrs ago and thought Woking was ok-ish...nothing amazing and yes its the home of McLaren.

But that was almost 6 yrs ago and i havent been there since.

Guy i work with lives in woking. Travels in to waterloo and walks from there to office. The property looks more affordable than anywhere in london. Well for the same price you can get a house with a garden that you would get a half a bed sit in london. but i think train costs like £300-350 per month. Depending on what tickets you need though. His g/f works for tfl so he gets half price tickets or free don't remember.

Did you date my ex? Timings are similar to mine, lol

Ha! I wish.

I am a motorsport fan, but I don't work in the industry. I work with Group level Financial IT systems and being high level it means most customers are London based and most firms specialising in it seem to be London or Surrey based.

Don't forget the cost of parking if you need to at the station as well. It's £15 per day...

Fortunately there are other alternatives within 5 minutes walk of the station at around £5 per day. Still expensive on a monthly basis if you need to drive to the station. :(

Which football club? :P

Chelsea FC :)

Like every place in the world there are some good parts (St Johns, Bisley, West End, parts of Knaphill, Hook Heath etc....) and some not so good bits (Goldsworth Park, Sythwood, parts of Knaphill).

There is a very good bus service (the number 91) that runs around most of Woking and is every 7 or 9 minutes so getting to the station is easy.

There aren't many 'high class' places to go and eat or drink so most people will go to Guildford or London for that sort of thing. The house prices are okay and cheaper than Guildford.

The train from Woking to London Waterloo is 24 minutes which is obviously brilliant, but quite busy in the morning. Trains are very frequent and you never have to wait more than 10 minutes to get on something that will end at London Waterloo.

Schools and public services are very good.

My OH's Dad has lived in Woking (Knaphill) and cycled to the station to travel to London every day for the past 25 years, the cycle takes him about 15 minutes but you could easily get a bus.

Woking is a bit of a dive but with some really nice surrounding areas and suburbs. Like Peerzy says, in terms of "places to go out" there really isn't much, though it's got all the usual chain stuff. I'd be inclined to go for Guildford, if I were to move back to the area; more expensive but to me having a nice town centre is worth it.

Woking's a rubbish place for parking though, so don't factor being able to park anywhere near the train station into your plans unless you're willing to spend stupid money (or park on the street outside the permit zone and walk 20 minutes like some people I used to work with). Traffic is awful around rush hour too.

Nice areas - Horsell, St.Johns, Hook Heath, Old Woking.
Avoid Sheerwater.

Horsell & Old Woking are probably the best bet if you want a "village in a town" kind of feel and are quite nice and fairly close to the station. Horsell's obviously next to Horsell Common as well, which is pretty great in terms of green space but its quite expensive.

I've lived in woking for 4 years and think it's alright, got most things you need.
Town centre is undergoing development with more on the way, decent shopping centre, cafes, couple if decent italian restaurants. Bit light on boozers though.
Property is expensive to rent and buy, mainly due to excellent transport links, road, rail and air.
To be honest it's alright. Yes Guildford in more picturesque and nicer, but is more expensive. I'm in Horsell and this place really is a nice area, like a small village within the town.

Avoid Sheerwater.

I spent a lot of my childhood in and around Sheerwater as my Grandparents lived there on Albert Drive, used to frequently walk to the shops and net for sticklebacks in the canal with my Grandad etc.

Was very surprised to hear how bad it had got around there, quite sad really that it's gone to pot like it has. :(
