Wolfdale e8200, e8400 and e8500 available for Pre-Order!

I'm sure most people would go for the cheapest if they all perform the same, whats not saying there will be some poor clockers floating around?.

I expect results will be posted on all the popular forums as people get their Wolfdales, you'll also see threads on which are the best batch numbers etc, If I see plenty of 4GHz overclocks for the E8200 I'll buy one, if on the other hand people are hitting around 3.6 GHz on the E8200 what's the point, G0's can do that easy.

Mine arrived. But I refused delivery.

Crazy you might say.

I think yer right.

But truth is as follows:

I have an Asus P5B Deluxe (which will support the E8400) which is running my Q6600 happily at 400 x 8 = 3.2GHz.

In anticipation of this new CPU, I decided to drop the multi and up the FSB.

Im not able to get a stable P95 going at 416MHz :(

Now I am running 4 x 1GB Geil ULL stuff. And couldve taken one pair out to see if that couldve been the issue.

But to be honest, I was seeing it already, i.e. messing with my rig and before I know it I will be forking out for 2 x 2GB PC8000 sticks, new mobo, new Heatsink etc. I.e. upgrading big time.

My original idea was to get the E8400 in and sell the Q6600 for the same price (i.e. nothing lost or gained... well... some speed gained at least!)

So really, worst case scenario, running at 400Mhz x 9 = 3.6GHz which isnt anything to write home about is it.

So... common sense finally began to creep in and this is why I decided to reject the delivery and RMA it back.

To be honest, I am happy with my PC's performance and I can run everything at full detail settings..except Crysis (at a decent rate)... but then everyone has that same problem.

For most of us, its gaming, and from that perspective I dont think we can expect groundbreaking performances from by upgrading from our 3.2/3.6GHz machines up to 3.8/4GHz typical levels of the 84/8500.

Would've been nice to say that you have a 4GHz system though :D

You might as well have installed it, benched it, sent it back under the distance selling regs and known one way or another!

Yes very true! But to be honest I didnt know whats the DSD regulations are regarding used CPUs. After all, the DSD is technically aimed at returning an item if it isnt the one you wanted and the supplier has a right to refuse the return of items if they were not returned in the original state or used excessively.

So I didnt want to run the risk.

Besides, I wasnt getting above 416MHz with my quad core, and I highly doubt that I would get any higher with the E8400.

Thought you can't return it if the item is open and the seal is broken?

My thoughts too. And to be honest, I saved on postage by refusing to accept the delivey.

Can somebody let me know whether one of the new E8400s will work with my Gigabyte DS3 motherboard? I fancy upgrading as I have an E6400 and wouldn't mind upgrading JUST the cpu.

Cheers

2 things.

1) The above peep getting only a 416FSB is a bummer but thats on a Quad, a Dual should let his Mobo clock the FSB higher (look at the EVGA 680i before new Rev).

2) To get 4GHZ on a E8200, your Mobo is going to need run a 500FSB, something not that common for most today.

RealityBites, I would remove your email from public view as you might get spammed big time by gimps, weirdos and the likes, precious ;)

Well It looks like if I get a wolf its going to have to be an E8500, I'm seeing reports the E8400 is actually a terrible overclocker so yea...
