It annoys me that race isn't even mentioned, if this was a group of whites attacking a minority person it would immediately be called a race related incident.

Urgh, this is why I hate cultural elements related to the concept of 'respect/disrespect' I'd wager good money she 'disrespected' them by turning them down - resulting in excessive violence as a reaction to 'retain pride'.

It stems from extreme insecurity.

It may or may not be a racially motivated attack, it's too early to say - but yes, the media sometimes jumps the gun when attributing motives to an attack in many cases (more for increased shock headlines, not as much a conspiracy I'd also wager).

It annoys me that race is mentioned in the scenario you talk about. It should be irrelevant in both scenarios unless the reason for the aggravation is known to be specifically due to racial reasons (a comment, a persons public actions etc.) as then it is a motivating factor, in any other case it is completely irrelevant.
