I read some woman is sueing her council due to hitting a pothole on her illegal scooter and damaging it and herself.
Not sure if she will get anything.
Probably won't but it's not out of the question, IANAL so maybe the council has been negligent re: the road. Just because the scooter is illegal doesn't mean she can't have a claim, there can be a risk of liability even with say burglars if they've injured themselves, less so if they've done something stupid themselves and fallen or there is a really obvious barbed wire fence perhaps with warning signs etc.. but potentially dodgy for the home owner if they've installed some broken glass without warning or hidden some nails the other side of their fence etc. that the person was there illegally isn't necessarily going to cover you 100%.
What are your views on these devices? Really handy for popping down the shops? Or a bane of human existence and a menace on the roads to cars and pedestrians alike? Mostly they are not legal unless you have a certain type but I haven't looked too closely into it as I have no plans to get one.
I think they're dangerous on roads but they do seem useful, new roads ought to have bike lanes and these things should be legal in bike lanes and in parks, maybe along canals etc.. it would be good to nip to the shops in them but I guess most roads don't have bike lanes.
I'm kind of 50/50 really because IMO you're inevitably going to get even more of them on roads if you make them legal.
