WONKA

It feels to me that Wonka was quietly dropped by the cinemas as there wasn't much in the movie press about it once it got released. Did it not do that well because it was by Warner Bros and anything to do with the same studio that made Harry Potter is now pure filth according to 0.1% of the general population (but makes up 50% of the Twitter population).

? It's made loads of money

Half a billionaire dollars on a budget of $125 million.

$71 million came from the UK.

Made $513m so far and its still pulling strong weekend numbers despite being out over a month (especially in the UK) so a good success despite there being what feels like comparatively little PR that I've seen (not saying none, but it feels like less than usual).

8/10, it had a very paddington feel to it. plenty of nostalgia from the classic Gene Wilder film. all my family enjoyed it and I could cope with it being a musical, which as a general rule doesnt float my boat

We watched it at the weekend, I've never really been a fan of previous Wonka films as they've all gone a bit too dark and weird at points for me but I'd agree with @heeeed about the Paddington feel especially as we watched that this weekend as well. It definitely felt like a lighter take on the story.

I have now watched this twice more at home as well as at cinema because kids... I thought it was going to be terrible from trailer but it is far better. Links with original is good.
