Woodworking tools

I need to invest in a new Pocket Hole jig. Currently using a £6 item i bought ages ago. Could ideally do with upgrading to something like the Kreg K4 system as im doing a lot more woodwork these days.

Saw this and thought of you!

Evolution saws are brilliant for the money - have had one for years, now use as my outdoor chopsaw and have a festool kapex for more accurate stuff. Got for larger size as suggested, you won't regret it.

Have Kreg K5 system - excellent set up for panel making. Tend to flip between that and the Festool domino, but both handy - highly recommend (always surprised at the strength of joints they create).

I'm 90% finished on my current project (Small Dressing Up Rail for my daughter)... that just needs sanding and finishing.

My next project however is a new Computer Desk made from Ash which will require mortise and tenon joints as well as biscuit jointing for the desk top...

Once that's done i'll be building a new TV cabinet.

Haha. Will try and get photos up if allowed, it's a new build 9 bed house which we've done fitted furniture in all bedrooms and cinema room

So been a while without any updates on my journey into woodworking. Had a leak in porch and outside toilet so the garage has been consumed by all the tools and materials the builders have been using. Finally all finished up this morning so now I could finally start work on the new shop. On the plus side I get my office back now as it is no longer filled with all the tools I purchased!

New flooring put down, just some square jigsaw foam mates from b and q, they feel great so far and will likely remove some where the radiators are leant against as that is where the bench will be going. 2 giant pluses to this garage, tho it may not be the biggest, that outside door you see is a toilet! with a radiator in there too so don't even have to go in the house. Second one is that fridge is full plenty of cold drinks, and beer!

Oh the garage door is new too! Installed this morning while they were finishing up.

All the little clamps I got, I am sure I will need more but its a good start.

Mitre saw and sash clamps, I don't think I will ever need more sash clamps but time will tell. Mitre saw is an Evolution 255m sliding. Looking forward to using it.

and some new tools on the shelf, router, circular saw, plane, engineers square, chisel set, rubber mallet and some wood glue. Not in the photo are a few hand saws, big steel rule and a utility square.

Tomorrows plan is to grab some wood and get started on the workbench

Looks great and bet you’ll have fun tomorrow.

Good amount of clamps too. It took me ages of trying to make do with about 4 before I bought that many. Makes a huge difference.

A band clamp would come in handy too.

I’ve also recently bought some clamp brackets. You drill them into some 2x1. It’s a really cheap way to get some really big clamps as 6ft sash clamps cost a fortune!

I hope it'll be fun. I've got a full cutlist set out and I am hoping b and q will do all of the cuts on plywood I need. Decided to go with ply for the instead of joining timber purely for easy of replacing and not having to work on getting it level myself.

If b and q can do all my cuts it means i'll be able to make a 2.4m long track for my circular saw so that'd be very handy.

Yeah from my previous projects I done years ago I already know that the more clamps the better.

Just need to decide whether I will actually bother with the electric rads I got given, I have changed the plugs on all 3 and tested one so far but my issue is finding sensible places to the mount them that won't get in the way. As well as they will cost a small fortune to be running and not sure if it'll be worth it.

Also need to decide where to store the mower and bike, all the other garden tools are in the summer house with the furniture and bbq so space is tight in there already.

Excellent progress! Great job on the saw track! Can sand and wax it to get the saw running really smoothly on it if need be.

Thanks I did sand it down after the photo and then realised I forgot to drill some sight holes in the track so need to work out an easy way to do that one

Just come back in as I started prepping the legs for gluing but thought I'd give the neighbors a break from hearing me using my sander and drill :P

A picture of the Dressing Up Rail I build for my daughter. It's made from Ash and finished with 2 coats of Boiled Linseed Oil.

I've just started cutting the lumber for my next project which will be a new desk for my PC.

I'll finally be able to have it out 3 years since I built the damn thing.

Seeing as we are sharing woodwork projects I thought I'd share the latest project and I am doing with my dad for my garage; a table saw / routing table. It might even help with some inspiration in setting up a home workshop:

Frames being constructed:

Frame Built:

Top and table saw installed:

The latest progress - Rip fence and trims installed

Rip Fence close up:

Overall garage (desperately in need of a tidy up!):

Next on the list:
  • Paint up the rip fence and adapt the right hand side of it into a routing fence
  • Install the router into the table
  • Install T-Track for the saw/router
  • Replace flexible hoses to vacuum cleaner with rigid pipework

@Abyss That looks smart!! I need a workbench for my garage but i fear I'd lose soooo much space as its only a single width unit.

I'm currently stuck gluing up on the kitchen floor as its the flattest surface i have :(

I'm tempted to have a go at building something but i need to get my next couple of projects (PC Desk and TV Unit) completed first before I'll be aloud to do anything.

I need somewhere to properly store my Larger Power Tools (Table Saw, Mitre Saw, Planer/Thicknesser) Im currently stacking my Sanders and Drills on an old DVD Shelving unit that i couldn't sell.

Unfortunately due to my job i tend to move every 3 -5 years so its hard to make anything permanent. Plus i can never guarantee that the next house i move to will have a garage that i can convert.

@Abyss That looks awesome! How accurate is the rip fence? Does it lock up solid? Never seen someone build a rip fence into a desk like that.
