There's a few steps you can take to put yourself beyond reasonable doubt, which I won't say here - because I don't want banned people coming back.

I think it might be prudent to yellow edit out what people are suggesting - don't want to give people tips! :)

ok, now im  so although my remote desktop/whs ip changes the actual internet ip address that forums log is the same?

its to do with your service provider. e.g your broadband ip address will be different to your mobile phones ip address if you check the boards on your phone at all. :)

ok, well im none the wiser so will live in my world of ignorance, where when i restart my router im assigned a new ip address so i can restart rapidshare and the likes that request a new ip address.

You get a different IP for your LAN ;)

192.168.x.xxx might be reassigned if you removed the PC from the router, if you restart the router itself then it would be reassigned an IP as part of the handshake, however it may be reassigned the same IP, or not.

There are download accelerators for the download hosts that will reset your router to force a new IP so that you can download without the long waits, for example.

If you're on a dynamic internet IP, as most are, you generally have to be disconnected from the internet (as in router switched off/disconnected) for some time before you get a new address, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address#Sticky_dynamic_IP_address

Basically your IP has a "lease" which is renewed, only when you're disconnected during the time that lease is set to expire will you be assigned a new IP upon reconnecting.

oh, nooo i didnt mean the 192.168.*.* obvs i know that changes nothing on the internet, just my local network. i meant if i restart my router, i can no longer access my WHS/remote desktop via the same number as it will assign me a new one.

mine does it on every restart that i have noticed

fair does however there is sooo much trolling ego massaging that goes on quite freely.

context and interpretation is in the eye of the beholder i suppose xD

To be honest it's not just the trolling - Jaffa has MM access, so that had to be considered (seeing as he just lied freely to the whole forum :p)

Just chose "Pancake"... Because well... Pancake. :p

Who's your ISP and what kind of service are you on? I guess every provider may have different ways of doign things, though i've always found on BT, BE or Sky that restarting my router keeps the same IP.

That's what I'm saying, Andybtsn got it wrong - I think he was understanding it that you were restarting the PC or disconnecting it from the router, rather than resetting the router itself.
