In word I can save a change OK at the start but when I reach a certain
page and try to save I am told that this is a read only doc! but it's not!

I cannot save in the original doc.

Idea ideas?

Vista premium / Word 2003

Maybe someone else is accessing the file at the same time?

Or more likely that part of the file is corrupted.

I have had a very similar issue on the servers at school/work.

I can be working on a document and then when I come to save it won't let me, like you it says it's a read only document. To get around this problem I just hit F12(Save as) and save it with a different name.

I am yet to work out what is casing this as I have altered my permissions to disallow Admins, Teachers etc etc apart from the System and myself access to my files so it surely cannot be another user, and it would say 'Locked for editing by --username--'.

Hmm alcohol still present in blood stream I see. So we enjoyed the surprise partay did we? :D:D

Would the Home/Student version of Office 2007 for about £80 not be enough or do they need the super duper Premium diamond encrusted platinum version? :p

;) one did :D

They need word, excel and outlook so it's small business needed.

I got her to work on word documents outside the "My documents" folder but got an email saying it's still happening :(

If you don't want to pay out for the Office Suite you could just get them to download and install the 2007 version from the MS website and try that for 30 days and see if that solves their problems??

Ok, I went round to see the lady yesterday.

The problem appears to be when you append information to the end of the document. In a test, I copied, paste then saved 3 times. On the third attempt, the document switched to read only.

The document is over 8Mb although that shouldn't make any difference.

The only other thing I have noticed is that it appears to be on documents created on her old PC (XP Home/word 2003).

Looking at google, we are not sure that Word 2007 is going to make any difference. She's pulling her hair out because it's part of her research into writing a book.

Any other thoughts?
