Word Problem

Well you could configure word to save in a different location if that fixes the issue, so she doesnt have to know how to switch folder just click save and open.

Is there any special formating in the documents? As i know from our work we have an issue with a patch released in Feburary that breaks some documents and you have to reset the formating.

Have you tried creating a new document and then copying and pasting the contents into the new document saving as a new name and seeing if the issue follows the content or stays with the document.

Could it be some sort of incompatibility bug that hasn't been patched yet, is Word 2003 fully updated with the latest service pack for it are do these only run on XP??

Can you not convert the files to *.docx and use 2007 trial and see if that solves it?

I have suggested that but I have found articles that report the same problem on 2007. That said, I have suggested to her again.

I've heard back from her today. I asked her to create a new document and copy/paste segments of the document to the new doc, then click save each time. After about 3 saves, the new document went into read only.

:(

So there is something about documents created in XP that Vista doesn't like? Presumably some text formatting if copying and pasting into new documents isn't working.

Has she got the PDF making extension installed for Office 2007? If so, get her to convert her troublesome documents to PDF then copy and paste the text from the PDFs into new Word documents. If that doesn't work, she needs to re-write her documents as far as I can see. :(

If you put the documents on another machine, does it do this?

If you highlight everything, then go to Tools is 'Unprotect' a highlighted option? Sounds like it is locking the file.

Is the PC on a network? Could some how be rights related, but that wouldn't explain why it WOULD work some of the time....

Is there any errors reporting in eventvwr?
