Should 'hints' be banned from this thread? I got today's in three, but only because I stupidly read here first. On attempt two I only had the first letter wrong, and there would have been at least two others I'd have tried before getting it right had I not seen the hints here first. I assumed the thread would be discussing the game with maybe a few scores, but not blatant giveaways.

Never heard of it until about 10 mins ago when I saw it mentioned on the BBC News homepage. I didn't read the article, but I gather Suzie Dent is a fan. There's a daytime game show called Lingo which I believe is the same thing.

Yes I will do that from now on, but I was just suggesting that giving obvious hints is almost as bad as posting the current word which isn't allowed.

I could not agree more. There should be no hints at all. I was tempted to say yesterday's word was a bit rude but refrained.
