At present I don't have a PC that is capable of gaming. I do however have a work laptop (HP Elitebook i5 based). Obviously I don't want to install anything on this machine, but I was wondering if I could run an external Sata drive (eSata) to use the hardware, and just boot from that drive instead of the internal one. (I'm aware the bios setup may possibly stop me from doing this.)

I have a decent and fast SATA drive (WD Cavair Black) that I can use for this, but I have never setup an eSata device before. What is the cheapest way to do this using just cables? (i.e. keep costs down so no enclosure).

External enclosures are ~ £ 20,

I would us invest in one, it will preserve the HD beter, and probably keep it cooler.

You need to set the boot options in the BIOS on the laptop to boot from the eSATA first.
The external SATA drive need to have full Windows install etc. to run your games.
