Is it right should be made to feel bad about having time off work when your ill? im due to go in to hospital on wednesday to have an impacted tooth out under general anthestic so will be off work and im off at the moment cos its causing me real pain ... nobody thinks this is fair cos they all have to work up untill christmas and so are really making me feel bad/guilty even though its something I can't help. Anyone else has this?

Look after no.1 as no doubt every other person at your place would do if in the same position. They shouldn't be making you feel bad & if they do ***** em anyway they're not worth worrying over.

Not uncommon this. I think most people feel like this at some time during their working life.

Bottom line is if you haven't got anything to feel guilty about, then it's their issue, not yours. Stick to your guns, and report it higher up if things get worse. Don't play into their hands, like being aggressive / goingdown to their level etc.

Good luck with the tooth, and best wishes for the other! :)

I don't mean to be rude but report what? Other peoples bad feelings ?

Oh and in the mean time lets highlight the time off im having?

:)

It'll always be the way. You could be off with 2 broken legs and it'd still be frowned upon. Try not to worry about it :)

As long as you are genuinely ill, just go back to work with your head held high when you are ready.

Then post a new thread asking for help with unfair dismissal. (JK)

Well, that depends on where he works, how exactly he is treated etc etc. If someone is being mistreated in any form, they have a right to bring it up with their superior.

Some people as said are just gits, you could be dieing with a terminal illness and still get grief from them. Trust me I know

Don't worry about what your colleagues say. Do what you need to do to get better. If you're sick, you need time to get medical treatment and to recover.
If you perceive that anyone has taken your time off thick and develops any grudges which hinder your working life or career, note every detail down. Don't lose your temper or anything. Bite your tongue and note it down.

I had a period of sickness earlier in the year. I was off work for almost 4 months and when I returned I almost flipped as I just couldn't deal with the torrent of **** that I had to take from the small minded sad ****ers who developed a grudge because I had some time off work. It took a lot of tongue biting but I still record every detail should I need it.

This is whats wrong with the UK now.

When i was working and you had a disagrement you sorted it with your fists.
Done and dusted straight away, none of this , i will sue you crap.

The trick with work is to make sure you work as hard and well and you can, and never take fake sickies. Then on the rare occasions when you really do need time off, nobody should resent it, even if it's at a difficult time for the business.

That's my experience anyway. Obviously though, if someone really doesn't like you then they'll always find reasons to bitch. There's nothing you can do about that because there's no rule in your employment contract which says folk have to like you. :-)
