Working in McDonalds?

i worked for macdonalds for just over 2 years whilst at college, if u want promotion is really easy there, i was a floor manager after a year lol even tho i was still part time there, i wouldnt advise making a career out of it but its a job that pays like any other an i made some good friends from working there

Well the things I'm hearing are things such as horrible managers, inproper training, smelling of chip fat constantly, etc etc.

Problem is all these people I've spoken to worked in the same town (different branches), and was wondering if this is a common thing or just that area.

I suppose it depends on the store, it will just one of those things if one store is **** doesn't mean they all are.

Your uniform will stink yes after working in kitchen. Wash it

Hehe I don't plan on making a career out of it, I'd probably only be there for a year if I did get a job, since I'm off to uni next year.

Same with any uniform surely? I've always had to wash my own.

I couldn't work at a fast food place. I think too much about my pride. :o

Pride? What is there to be more proud of, working a not very nice job for money, or living off government/mummy and daddy.

I'm in no way too snobby to work somewhere, but I don't want to work an absolutely disgusting job I hate having to attend.

I worked there for a good while during college as I wanted more pay than the local pub kitchens.

I ended up doing customer facing side of things. Worked the tills and whatnot at first and you'd be surprised at the regulars. I worked the same shifts every week and I'd get a queue of the regulars at my till as opposed to my colleagues. They'd rather have waited for me getting it right than having to complain.

I was eventually "promoted" to man the 1st drive thru window and I was always give praise for being awesome.

It was a good crack, but then I knew most of the people there from various stages of my life, such is the way it is round here :)

The hours were a bit naff for someone who was drunk when he wasn't in college or working (well, for the afternoon part of the shift lol) and they did mess about with the rota a lot despite me working set shifts and nothing else. This is store dependant however and ours was brand new when we started working there so all our btichign and moaning had them get it right eventually.

Is it the best place to work? No. Is it an acceptable place to work? I think so, as fast food places go, they are (generally) a pretty good employer, although it does very much depend on local management as to how good (or bad) it is. I worked for them while at uni, and afterwards when I was job hunting, and to be honest, it's not as bad as most people seem to make out, at least if you find a good store with good management. If for any reason I found myself without employment, I'd go back.

A better question is what alternatives do you have at the moment?

I have never lived off the goverment/parents and i wouldn't reduce myself to working in a fast food place because i am better than that. Simple as. :)

I know i might be coming across as a bit 'high and mighty' but i've worked from 16 and never relied on anyone. There are better things around unless you really do have nothing on your CV and have to resort to it. Thats my personal opinion.

Ah you edited...well to me it is. Each to their own.

I've been working there full-time for several weeks and I've learnt a lot. It's true that the training is improper and some of the managers suck but if you let that get to you then there's something wrong with you. Most of the people who have been working there for more then a few months hate it but it's just a job to them.

I spend most of the time in the kitchen, I like it when it's busy cos it's a challenge to get the food in on time and co-ordinate with peers. Managers shout at you constantly but I just ignore them. One of the managers said if I keep it up I should be in a white shirt in several months. I don't care about that tbh cos I don't intend to stay there for long. Pay sucks for higher ups anyway. Me personally I like blue-collar work, depends on you.

Anyone here got first-hand experience of working in McDonalds?
Tempted to apply part-time for my last year of college, but I'm hearing lots of horror stories, just wanting some more peoples opinions...

Thanks.

if you look on job center website theres part time call center work for bt and norwich union which should be better then mcdonalds
