Done my door supervisors course a few months ago, and i have got my first job tonight in a pretty quiet place, nothing big. Im not really nervous to my suprise but i am slightly conerned if I have to throw out very large and agressive punter. Only 2 of us working there tonight, bit of experience for me until i move on to bigger places, i should be working in swansea pretty soon, which should be good.
Anybody here worked the doors before, any advice?

Doormen are mindless thugs who like beating people up.

Doormen are deviants who chase the women who go into the clubs.

Doormen are criminals who deal drugs on the side to top up their wages.

Think i've covered it all, people can give you sensible answers now ;)

Do you not have a ClubWatch scheme in your area? Useful for calling in backup from another unit.
Your SIA courses probably covered the main bits, don't be confrontational, just get them out then cool things.

I haven't worked the door before, but i've asked quite a few people to leave the premises because of loud/rude behavior.

I find that just having a word with people works, unless they're so drunk that they just argue the toss.

I wouldnt go that far, but I do have very little respect for 99% of them.

Only that use only such force as is needed and when needed and CCTV is everywhere.

Good luck and enjoy.

Yeh, getting physical is a last resort, always try and talk to the customer and try and empathise with his situation etc. Having very little respect for 99% of them is a bit odd, as 99% of the doorman down here are nice guys and only get physical when it is needed.

Good luck. :) You're a job which gets a lot of abuse and little thanks. As long as you're fair and decent, as a punter one cannot ask much more.

Can i ask why?

Agreed. Being polite and respectful will get you a long way, even as a doorman.

Good luck for this evening. :)

Slightly off topic but will a doorman refuse to let me into weatherspoons because I'm going to be wearing trainers?

Ive never seen a 'spoons with doormen but if the dress code is the same at them all you shouldnt have any problem as long as your wearing something else and not just trainers and a smile :p

99% is much too high. There are definatly a lot of bad ones who do fight for no reason and deal drugs but there are also a good deal of fine ones. It can't be a very nice job, especially in winter when your just standing outside keeping people in line at 1.30am in the feezing cold!

Getting picked up in 15mins. I hope things go well for me :)

Yep good luck on your first night.

As to 99%, I dont mean that literally, but the majority that I have encountered are always on a power trip, spend far too much time chasing skirt, physically abusing people when they have no right to, do not carry out their jobs to a good standard, etc.

Ive not ever had any "really" bad experiences with them, but plenty of bad ones. I think that all doormen should be required to do courses and pass exams before they are let loose.
