Working with people who smell

I've got a mate like this, known him for years and occasionally employ him to help him out.

He's alright and everything, but sometimes in the past I've invited him to stay at my house if I've had a few days work, save driving him home every night.

First thing I do do when I get in from work (after drinking a coffee) is jump straight in the shower, but this guy NEVER does and he stinks.

I'm not the sort of person that would want to embarrass/offend someone, but I've said so many times "I'll make you a coffee, go and jump in the shower mate", and he always replies with something like "ah it's okay, I'll have one when I go home" which can be something like 2 days time, on top of the day weve already worked. If we were sitting around doing nothing, then it would be bad enough but the work we do is physical, sweaty work.

Edit - the spare room he stays in smells of onion the next day, whilst it's a nice smell when your cooking, it's not so nice having come from someones armpit.

Definitely tell your manager! We ha a similar event at work and a few quiet words sorted it.
No sense in putting yourself in a position for her to make a complaint about you!

Im fair sure one of my mates showers once a week if that! Constant long greasy hair and teeth rarely brushed in a morning! I dont get how they cope, first job of any day is a shower and teeth! Unless theres a pasty to smash then that first followed by the rest! :D

I'd echo the comments that it's unlikely the person that smells has any idea. If she's surrounded by it 24/7 she'll be used to it. The manager, as awkward as the conversation will be should sort it for you.

I never really smelt the smoke on people until I 'gave up'. I'm by no means a non-smoker now but I am smoking so little that, especially at work, I can smell smoke on people at fifty paces.

I never, ever noticed this before I reduced my smoking so much.
