Workmate has dropped dead

I know what you mean, there must be a happy balance between enough exercise to keep you healthy but not so much as to be at risk of pegging it.

A couple of years back a very very fit and healthy person died because he was too healthy. Basically the persons heart had failed (or something like that). When they looked at his heart, apparantly it was I think 3 times larger than the normal human heart.

It was said that the individual used to do cross country running everyday in the morning for god only knows how many miles and he had been doing this for a number of years

RIP to the people mentioned but to me something doesn't add up.

From the sounds of it sounds like a heart attack, anuerism (sp?), stroke or something like that which can happen at any time without warning.

From the sounds of things (and the fact they were all fit) it says to me they were not giving their bodies enough rest pror to or after excercise.

Oh dear, thats terrible, one of my sister's friends mum was laying on the sofa in her home when she just passed away, they think a valve in her heart randomly failed. :(

But RIP to your workmate. :(

Sorry to hear that.

Dad had a guy at work, shook his hand, turned around, guy had a brain haeomorrage and dropped stone dead.

Horrible stuff.

My mates wife took him a cup of tea and morning paper , went out of the door to go to work, turned back immediately because she forgot to tell him something and he'd died

Just goes to show all of us complacently alive folk to make the most of what you've got left. Somehow sitting infront of my computer at work for five out of every seven days just doesn't seem like good life management when I think about it- why am I wasting my time on this earth doing this?
I spend most of my time working to do the things I like to do, but then I've only got a few days per week to properly call my own, so really I've ended up doing all the things I hate and none of the things I love; sometimes as I get older, I swear I can hear a clock ticking...

My granny's neighbour doesn't drink or smoke, walks every day (she used to cycle everywhere) and a few weeks ago she found out she had cancer and has to start chemo.

I'm pretty sure there's a few lessons to be learned from all the cases in this thread, such as don't take any one for granted - least of all yourself.

No point in saving for a retirement you might not even be around to take. I say that because, working as an accountant, it's amazing to see the amount of middle-aged, hard-working accountants just keeling over. Typically, they're a bit overweight, obviously a bit stressed out at times but generally jovial, and when they have a heart-attack they might just be lucky enough to realise it's time to take an early retirement. Many don't even get that chance.

One of my uncles friend used to work in Algate for a hosting firm was standing up next to the server just about to take the monitor out from the cabinet; he dropped dead without warning.

Very sad time for my uncle, he went home and told his wife lets go out for walk. :(

Aww man can I relate to this. Youre absolutely right about the whole sitting infront of the computer scenario.

As for the "clock ticking", dude youre not alone man.

Fit people dying does happen knew a guy playing rugby one day, massive heart attack died on the spot. Maybe in people with unknown conditions exercise can trigger problems but in all fairness you cant use that as a reason not to exercise that opens a whole different can of worms.

RIP to all those gone before their time
