Heard the scond half on the radio, sounde4d like the best match of the WC so far?

In my layman opinion it most certainly was. Italy cost me £50 but I tonight I do not care. All my Slovakian contractors was just given the night off with full pay. Really happy for them. :D

Good to see the Slovak beating the Italians at a game of falling down and rolling all over the place, coupled with dirty tackling.
I enjoyed the game greatly, and the result was well deserved, in this tournament, Italy played 15 minutes of positive football, the last 15 minutes, if they had turned up for the first two games they would have breezed the group easily.
They didn't and now they go home.
I think the chap was onside when he scored, but i think the goal line clearance was not fully over the line.
They have cause to whinge, but frankly only have themselves to blame.
Lippi has already retired btw or as good as, he was set to leave at end of tournament and his repalcement is already lined up.

It's so easy for everyone to jump on the "OMG ITalY DiverZ!!!11" bangwagon. But do people not see other teams doing exactly the same if not worse? THe South Americans for example are far worse for rolling around. I do admit Italians can be a little theatrical sometime but no worse than most teams.

Even Englands players overreact or go down easily because sadly, its just part of the game nowadays and the only way to ensure that a slight foul is seen by the ref.

If people actually watched other teams as eagle eyed as they seem to watch Italy I don't think ITaly would come out so bad.

As for the post a few above, Lippi had already announced he would be leaving before the World Cup and a replacement is lined up already. Lippi was under massive criticism before a ball was even kicked this tournament with some bizzarre exclusions to his squad and has been under fire after every game with his squad selection. He left too much talent at home and had the worst bunch of strikers I've seen in a long time.

Onto the performance I can honestly say its the first time I've been really disgusted with a team. Pure lack of effort from all players and they just never wanted it enough. The amount of times I could see Slovakia breaking and Italian midfielders jogging back at a leisurely pace was unbelievable.

I think De Rossi has summed it all up when he said that before the game the players were all laughing and joking around because they didn't believe for one minute that they were going out at the group stages.

They deserve to be flying home.

Without reading the previous posts in much detail:

We deserved to go out. The squad wasn't the best that could have been picked (Cassano was clearly more than good enough but Lippi had issues with him) and the truth is that Cannavaro and Pepe are two of a few who should never have been part of the squad. Yes the linesman got the decision wrong on Quagliarella's strike which should have made it 2-2 but it would have been delaying the inevitable and softening how poor we actually were.

Hopefully things will improve with Prandelli who will now have no option but to trust youngsters like Bonucci, Bocchetti, Ranocchia (all defenders) or the likes of Marchisio who is a defensive/central midfielder Lippi tried to use on left wing and then as a playmaker for some ridiculous reason.

I've also lost my patience with Montolivo who, for me, consistently fails to perform to the heights expected of him for many years.

Congratulations to Paraguay and Slovakia for qualifying and New Zealand for finishing above us.

Italy are **** and won 2006 with luck. So I'm not suprised they deserve to be out.

Right. Thanks for that insightful input....here's me thinking we beat the hosts in a magnificent semi-final match and matched a France side so many teams struggled against.

Good post. Really. Luck got them all the way through the previous World Cup and that same luck saw them beat Germany and France while conceding just TWO GOALS from the initial group stage to winning the final (excl. the penalty shootout).

Having got that of my chest, for me it was a sad day in Italian football. Some say the team are old but I read today that the England side is older still.

I could make excuses or clutch at straws in terms of goals denied but at the end of the day Italy just didn't have anything to give. I stopped watching at 2-0 and it sounds like I missed arguably the best 15 mins of the WC yet.

Bring back the team of '82 - Rossi's hat trick against Brazil. If any of you haven't seen it but somehow get the chance, watch it! :D

I like Italy.

I'm kinda dissapointed that they've gone out.

Really sad to see some top players leaving International football with such a weak run at the World Cup.

Saying that, I don't think you can win a World Cup with just luck, They at times played very well in the last World Cup :)
