Not bad from Spain,...expected much more and was a bit disappointed...should have been 5 or 6 goals in this..couldnt see Hondurans scoring...should have been a massacre really.

Not that impressive tbh.

Why did Navas get the right spot. He came on for Silva in the last game, he looks effective but he's not, his crosses ranged from going to the other side of the box, to the other side line, nothing actually in the box or near a player. Even worse is he always crosses, when he is truly awful at it. Also a little bit of diving here and there from him and play acting which isn't nice to see.

Spain are still playing well, but need a cutting edge, Villa was superb as a winger, far more effective so far than Silva, Iniesta or Navas on the wing, his goal was pretty awesome though up against a woeful right back.

Honduras are just ruddy awful though and theres question marks over Spain qualifying just because you can quite easilly see the Swiss beating Honduras, which means Spain need a win, and maybe a with quite a few goals, to qualify don't they?

Fab so close to scoring, if he'd been on the pitch for more than a minute he'd have finished it first time, first touch wasn't fantastic though took him round the keeper, shot was on target, but a good bit of defending. The run he made and timing of it was awesome, incredibly unlucky not to get a goal. His passing and movement were very good but the team were in "another goal would be nice, but we're not going to kill ourselves" mode for the last 15 mins.

Ramos, another player who looks effective but he just shots, constantly all the damn time and rarely ever scores. His goals to shots ratio is probably awful and you'd think most of the time their are better options, also he's usually useless defensively. If he actually scored semi frequently his lack of defensive ability/always being caught down field might be worthwhile. As someone who wastes chance after chance, he's only the best option because Arbeloa is so useless.

Spain only need to beat Chile by more than one goal to go through on goal difference at the expense of either Chile or Switzerland don't they? Regardless of how well Chile played against the other two group opponents I can't see them getting anything against Spain. If Switzerland put at least a few past Honduras and Spain beat Chile by more than one goal then Switzerland will go through instead of Chile, based on goal difference.

I assume a win will put them through and a win that equals what Switzerland manage against Honduras would have them topping the group. It's odd that teams like France that have 1 point after 2 terrible performances could still qualify while Chile with 6 points might fail to make it to the last 16 despite two wins!

What are the rules this year, is it GD then head to head, or a few steps inbetween. Do the Swiss need to win by 2, or Spain to win by 2 for the swiss to go through, assuming they beat the Hondurans which, frankly, even with a lack of goals for them should be doable.

The group stage is so odd, I was saying in another thread, all the teams expected to do well are playing like that, under huge pressure, they all seem fairly nervous. There were so many times Xavi especially but Spain in general didn't want to shoot, well, except for Ramos who can't stop shooting :p

Other teams, teams not expected to do anything seem to be pulling out some performances and playing well. But really its teams that are actually okay, just ones people don't know and didn't expect anything from. Few people knew the Swiss were so good defensively, but its seemingly freed them from playing under the massive pressure/scrutiny other teams are getting.

If Spain and Chile draw (given Spain's shooting last night that isnt impossible) and Switzerland get at least 2-0, Spain are out?

Obviously Chile have got the "easier" 6 points so far, with the toughest group game to come, but Friday's game(s) could be very interesting

Which is why Chile HAVE to play their best XI (against probably one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the competition) rather than resting a few in a "dead rubber" - which this game definitely isnt

Really hard on Chile as I think they already deserve a place in the last 16 (even if Switzerland and Honduras arent the biggest names in world football lol)

According to the commentator during the Chile v Swiss game, Chile's coach is the most attack minded in the game. They will probably start with their 3-3-1-3 formation again :D I really hope Chile can get at least a draw as I think they deserve to qualify given their attacking style of play.

My understanding of it is that Chile's win last night is the best bet for knocking Spain out.

If Switzerland can record a decent victory over Honduras they'd be through if they're two* goals better than a Spanish victory over Chile. A bigger win for Spain against the latter seemingly would be a lot harder, since they can't field a weak team or relax. I think that's because while Chile have 6 points, it's goal difference that is the deciding factor between teams. So heavy spankings by Spain and Switzerland (on Honduras) could technically see them eliminated.

*Edit, not sure of this, but after goal difference, there's goals scored and if that's tied then results between teams. Which I think would mean Switzerland would only need to beat Honduras by a goal more than Spain beat Chile, since the Swiss of course beat Spain 1-0.

It's a 3-4-3 with a diamond in midfield. It's nothing that we haven't seen before. It could be a really frantic game as both like to put a lot of pressure on the ball so I expect both sides to cough up a few easy chances and to leave room for some good football.

I have only seen highlights of Chile against the Swiss and 1 half against Honduras but:

Both teams like to control the pace of the game, due to the higher quality and depth of the Spanish midfield, I believe Spain will hold the advantage here, judging by the quantity of cards issued in the Swiss game, I can see the Chileans becoming frustrated and perhaps playing more aggressively, and I wouldn't be surprised if one of their players was sent off.

Spain like to faff, particularly in front of the goal, whilst Chile seem unable to convert every chance, I can see Spain holding most of the possession with Chile attacking fast on the break, I don't think Spain will escape without conceding but I believe ultimately they will triumph, my prediction: 2-1

It promises to be a good game, with everything to play for from both teams. I actually have a bet on Spain topping their group, I am hopeful they will achieve this but, I am also tempted to trade out of the bet at the first oppurtunity, as there are other variables that could work against Spain.

If anyone else would care to share their thoughts and predictions, it would be nice to hear and will help me decide about my bet.

Thanks for that really appreciated

While Spain played well last night - the commentators hit the nail on the head "lovely but not lethal" and thats why I think Chile have a good chance at a draw

Every element of the spanish team is brilliant - best in europe and arguably as a team in the world also(considering Kaka's performances so far etc etc), but they just arent clicking yet - if /when they do it would be really incredible but with the pressure on them.....I would love to see them go further but I would hate to see Chile go out , and as Spain will win things in years to come (with such a young team) - Chile should grasp their chance now and I really hope they do(underdogs and all that)
