World Cup 2010 - Quarter-finals **spoilers**

How do ze germans get away with this?

Klose was born in Opole, Poland. Both of his parents were active in sports[3]; his mother, Barbara Jeż, was a member of the Poland women's national handball team. His father Josef Klose played professional football in Poland for Odra Opole, before leaving then communist Poland in 1978 and moving to France to play for clubs like AJ Auxerre. In 1985, Miroslav and his mother joined him in Kusel, Germany. Klose's father is from an ethnic German family and thus they were permitted to settle as Aussiedler in West Germany. Klose holds German nationality.

I hope germany go out not because I hate them as they are playing great football this tournament but their team is the biggest twist of lies I have ever seen.

It's not really all that different to John Barnes, Zola Budd and Greg Rusedski competing as English/British though.

Exactly the same way England cricket team get away with a few SA's and an Irish fella in their side;).

I hate Germany because they are just so damn efficient when playing...play as a proper team rather than a group of individuals but watching them play is something else...they arent fancy or anything...just too damn efficient and thats why i loathe them:p

You do realise it explains everything right there, Klose's dad is from a German family, he's lived in Germany since 1985, so he's been there for 25 years.

Get over it, he's lived there what 3/4 of his life, he's part German, his family is part German, thats life. EVERY SINGLE TEAM has players who qualify for multiple teams. We have English players who have joined loads of other teams through having a Jamaican mother, grandmother/whatever.

Theres no point trying to pick holes in where people are from, go back far enough we're all from the same place anyway, you're looking for excuses....... England don't suck, Germany just cheated.

People also constantly go on about Ozil being Turkish, despite being born in Germany, so when it suits people he should play for Turkey because his family is from there, and when it suits them its the other way around, Klose shouldn't count as German just because his family is from there, he wasn't born there. It works both ways around for ANYONE in the world, a family connection basically for most countrys, some countrys allow you to gain their nationality if you've been their long enough like Eduardo for Croatia(born in brazil but with Croatian passport having lived there for many years).

Ozil, Klose, Podolski, none of them singly make the team great, and they have other players for all those positions, the strength of their team isn't the individuals, its the team, of which the vast majority is born in Germany anyway.

Eduardo is about the most far fetched use of the rules, but Klose's family is German, Ozil was born there, they aren't getting away with anything, they are German, get over it.

Fantastic second half, that.

Both penalties should have been re-taken too, though - and another one given.

For me the Villa one was soft as anything, there was marginal contact but I don't think the contact caused him to go down, he felt something and went. Ridiculous that Alonso's one had to be retaken but the first one wasn't retaken, laughable infact.

To be honest I still suspect ref's get a little "help" from someone who says, along the lines of "that was a really soft penalty, maybe have them retake it, if he misses its probably fair" which is probably also why the Fabregas penalty wasn't given because that was clear as day.

THe Pique one was laughably bad, and I can't wait for video replay because ALL the tugging at corners/freekicks, as I've said before, would dissappear after a few weeks of 5 red cards a game as people get caught and punished correctly. PIque's was bad, but one of the Portugal players trying to put Lucio in a Judo hold, arms around the waist trying to drag him to the floor he was pretty much sitting with all his weight pulling Lucio and he' couldn't budge him, but it was certainly a foul. It was when Juan scored, had he not the penalty probably wouldn't have been given, but should have.

Spain were poor, Alonso, Pique(especially), Busquets and Torres were woeful, Busquest and INiesta dived all game long, Iniesta had a few real fouls on him but constantly went down if people just got close to him. This isn't close to the same Spanish side from two years ago, which is a huge shame. Since the Euro's and Barca getting a new manager Barca have started to dive quite a lot and so have Busquests/Iniesta and a couple others, shame to see as they were quite brilliant 2 years ago. Busquets isn't in the same league as Senna and Alonso in to make up for Busquets crapness loses them a critical moving and passing attacking central midfielder, be that Fabregas or Iniesta on the inside more.

Shame Santa Cruz wasn't cool enough under pressure, that last minute rebound off Casillas, a nice little chip/dink of the ball over the keeper and they go to extra time which really they deserved as the penalty was stone wall and they really should have scored it, well, should have had a retake at least.

That Spain side isn't close to good enough to beat Germany if they can maintain form, Spain need to step it up, drop one of Alonso/Busquets and either play Iniesta in the middle, Villa upfront while dropping Torres and a winger or two, or put Fab in the middle and keep Iniesta wide. 2DM's isn't working for them at all, neither is Torres, whose touch and inability to do anything but one touch and shoot in general means he's useless at bringing the other players into the mix.

Happens with all the teams. Ghana was a French colony so they have some overlap. The French and Algerians have loads of overlap. We've pinched people from here and there. The former Yugoslavian teams are obviously a mess for it, same goes for the former USSR states.

Okay England Cricket team is a valid point but most SA cricket players are most likely desendants of english people. Its also not like the team is mixed with several different "nationalitys" either.

The German team consists of 1 Ghanaian, 2 poles, 1 Nigerian, 2 turks, 1 brazillian, and 1 spaniard. Plus any other I have missed.

Im not saying we are any better either but simply put things like this need to stop. As eventually it is going to get far too out of hand.

I hope Walcott is watching, anyone that watches Barca enough will know he should be doing what Pedro does!

Alonso was dire today so many stray passes really not like him (also why does he always have blue lips?)

Busquets does his job in DCM breaks play up and spreads it, he didnt seem to be on the floor all that often tonight from what I remember.

I have a feeling Spain will be Germany for some reason, they are a lot stronger at the back than the Argies and lets be honest Germany have scored 4 past

Aussies
Us
Argies

All with pretty poor defences on the day that made it far to easy so lets not get TO carried away.

And he spent his first 7 years of his life in Poland with his mother, Speaking polish as his first language and growing up in the polish way. I am half polish myself as my mother came over when she was a kid but I was born and raised in England and do not even consider myself polish. I could go get a passport right now and join their national team even though i do not speak a word of the language!!!

The "Turk" was BORN IN GERMANY, both the "poles" were from German families(it seems both might have moved before the war kicked off, if it was to get away from the Nazi's I don't know, but considering the timing, its hardly something to punish them for).

Both the Boatengs have a GERMAN MOTHER and were BORN IN GERMANY. Its actually the other way around and Keven-prince is using the rule to qualify for a country he wasn't born in.

There aren't any spanish players in the German team, Gomez, was born in Germany, he has a spanish sounding name, but is German.

They have 3 people born in Poland, all from families that lived in Germany for decades before moving eslewhere, they all have very strong german families and most have lived their the majority of their lives. The one "dodgey" player is a Yugoslavian born Marin, who has lived in Germany since the age of 2.

Sorry but pretending they are cheating, is kidding yourself and making excuses, there are MANY more teams with WAY more "dodgey" qualifications, but frankly the only qualification is to be a national of the country you play for, it doesn't matter how you get it. In germany if you've lived there for 8 years you can qualify as a German National and get a passport and be a citizen, with other countries it is FAR less strict, and is as low as 3 years spent there to get a passport. England have used the rule for quite a lot of players over the years.

Germany have impressed and Spain haven't. That is why I think Germany will beat Spain, who knows, Spain could really pull something out of the bag but on here it just seems the anti-Germany parade has arrived in full force.

They smashed Australia and people just went meh, it's only Australia, they smashed England and everyone was like meh, England were just bad, Germany weren't good. Then they put 4 goals past Argentina and gave the Argentinian offense virtually no handouts at all and everyone is still trying to detract from the German performance. Maybe if Germany win the World Cup a lot of people will just shut up, or no doubt Germany wouldn't have played well, the other team would've played poorly.

Not sure what your point is, yup, thems the rules, all teams live by them, all teams can use the, all teams can nationalise a player given enough time, people can emmigrate to another country and after X amount of time gain citizenship nationality for a whole host of other reasons, a whole number of sports, jobs, benefits, whatever else, this is how the world has worked for many many years.

You can qualify to play for two teams, and you can choose which you want to play for, thats the rules, no ones forcing you to join one or the other. These players qualify to play for two countries........ they went with Germany, wheres the argument?

I fancy Germany, they are absolutely on fire, their confidence will be sky high, and they play counter-attacking football, the perfect way to play against a possession based Spain team. Is Mueller out for the semi? That could be the deciding factor.

Yes I think Muller is out of the Semi, either by injury or too many yellows, or both.

Germany have been phenomenal frankly, they have had easy teams to beat, England had easier teams to beat and did worse, so not sure how the "excuse" as to how Germany were so good carries any weight.

Spains defence is dodgey, Ramos is utterly awful defensively, Pique has never been good, was just not really tested in a truly fantastic Barcelona team in his first "big" year, this year the team has been less good and Pique has been shown up more, he was awful throughout, not just the penalty that was given for something just about all CB's do nowdays, but he was stupidly obvious with it, Capdeville is not a good left back by any stretch of the immagination and Puyol has always been prone to mistakes but great at recovering them. Casillas seems to be dropping the ball and Spain have had trouble scoring past the Swiss, Chile, Honduras and Portugal, for which other than the Swiss, all have fairly poor defences.

Not sure where the idea that Spain have a better chance of scoring against maybe the best defence in the competition than Germany, the highest scoring team by miles, has against an average(at best) defence. Spain HAVE to go up 2-3 gears to beat the current form Germany, because currently Spain are playing worse than Argentina were, and have as shakey a defence(ie none existant right back, one iffy CB and a slightly nervy looking keeper).

Deffo out for two yellows, does anyone remember what he got it for, was it hte accidental handball, while the completley on purpose one got nothing early on in the game? Shame as he was their best player today, he was everywhere. Its surprising he doesn't look fast, not sure he is, but he was outside his box when the Argies had the ball and outside/inside their box for most attacks and passing in most moves aswell, popped up helping the left back defend several times aswell, he was everywhere and involved in just about every key move.

He's getting far less press than Ozil but is better if you ask me, afaik he's a striker whose basically playing the wing and doing fantastically well, while Ozil's a winger/attacking midfielder and playing his usual role.

He could well be the difference, especially if Ozil has another average performance like today. Klose was phenomenal at times in keeping posession though, chesting it down, holding off two strong players then flicking it over then and going on the attack.

EDIT:- it was THAT handball, that was even worse than the one I remembered, it hit half his chest, half his arm by his chest, right after Messi chested it, which then hit his arm and thats the only reason it hit Muller where it did, awful decision, terrible reason to miss a semi final and potentially have a massive effect on who wins the cup.

Why on earth aren't yellow cards reviewable, ok in the league across all leagues its a LOT of reviewing to do worldwide, but in the world cup, with so few games, once every 4 years, with 4 games to review and days to do it, shocking frankly.
