Difficulties for me were picking keepers, there's no one out there for me that screams "I'm #1!". Robinson I think is generally solid, had a dodgy patch a while back but is just an imposing presence in the goal and is the best at kicking (not that I'm suggesting kicking should be the main priority for a keeper). Kirkland is great on paper (don't forget that Tom84(?) guy betting us all he would be England's #1 by Euro 2004!) but you are always worried about his fitness. Green was pretty hapless on crosses a couple of years ago on crosses (reminded me of David James in his Liverpool days) but has improved. Foster I rated before this season, fantastic distribution, but has looked dodgy and seems to have fallen down the pecking order. Hart is one for the future, need to see a bit more of him really.

At the back in an ideal world I'd bring Woodgate along but well into March and only 3 league matches played says it all really.

Then in midfield I ended up taking 9 players because we seem to have quite a few options there, some might say taking 7 defenders is a risk but I've picked a few versatile ones like Brown and Lescott who can play in the centre or at fullback. At a push Barry can drop back to LB as well. The likes of SWP and Young were close to getting in but not quite there.

Up front part of me still wants to take Owen instead of Bent, he is really dangerous in the box because he takes up such great positions (contrary to popular belief he doesn't rely on pace, just look at the number of tap-ins and rebounds he puts away, and it's not down to luck either).

bbc transfer rumours said:
"Wigan's French left-winger Charles N'Zogbia would play for England, if he was asked - the 23-year-old qualifies through residency having lived in England since 2004"

anyone think he is good enough for the squad?

Perhaps, it may well solve our left side problem, if Cole isn't available that is. We don't have a left side problem if we have Joe and Ashley.

Capello woudldn't pick N'Zogbia anyway. He said he wouldn't pick Almunia because he is Spanish even though he qualifies to play for England.

He qualifies, and we don't have an English manager

Yeah I was joking but I imagine that's what you'd hear from quite a few people. I personally don't mind about foreigners playing for us as long as they've been educated in football here (been here since 16ish)

I think it's actually the hardest tournament squad I've ever had to pick. Normally I can come up with 22 (or 23 in recent years) without too much trouble and be happy with my selection, but not this year.

At most there's maybe 15 players that I'd be 100% sure on taking.
