World Cup Group B (England, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Sweden) **SPOILERS**

good goal, good that he remembered that he's playing after 91 minutes

I believe he was letting fat frank have all the shots before stepping up and showing him how it's done.

Poor.

Substitutions changed it once for Sven. Crouch was poor as was Lampard, Gerrard not much better. Lennon can beat a man, but I've never seen him create a final ball? Leaving just Cole at the back was stupid.

But we are through, and never to improve 10 fold.

On a side note, well done Sky Sports, asking drunk Geordies live on TV what they thought of the game..... :D

So it had nothing to do with his rugby type shots at the beginning of the game... ;)

stuart pearce is totally right, owen is doing nothing
Thats why I wish he was our manager. He has heart and passion and tells it as it is. Owen has looked lost in the squad for a long, long time now because of his injuries.

Got to say Lampard's finishing was poor, Gerrard was missing until the 90th minute. Owen did nothing. Except for the goal Beckhams deliveries were below average. Crouch looked like the kid who couldn't play properly when you had a kickabout when you were little (except for the goal). However Terry was sublime, Lennon was really impressive.

As the top managers say the top teams scrape wins even when they play bad, as per our two first games. I expect Lampard to do well next match (if he plays) the mark of a good player is how he reacts to a bad game.

He'd be so much better for us imo. He has so much passion when things occur in games.. it's fun watching man city games just for his reactions :)

It's voted for by viewers though, most of which will be American. So they're probably confusing games and thinking that Beckham managed to pass for 1000 yards this game :D

I think everyone's being harsh on Gerrard. He's being played as the holding player so Frank can get forward and score. Although his long passing is still a bit off he's doing what has been asked of him. Break up the attacks and stop the opposition from scoring. He's not going to bomb forward while Sven insists on playing him this way so he's never going to look amazing. I think Sven should drop Lampard and bring in Carrick for the next game and see how well Gerrard does then.

mics thoughts on the match

poor performance BUT it was 11 men behind the ball constantly

both coles hooked up very well

the whole team looked like they couldnt be bothererd tbh, no pace to the game

woot @ rooney

i still dont rate crouch, im sorry but his finishing is poor

On the subject of owen, of course he is going to be awful if we keep lumping the ball upfield, keep the ball on the floor dont just hoof it from deep, as the pundits were saying.

Lennon has proved himself as a definate sub when we need to grab a goal
Downing is a decent enough replacement for cole
Crouch is bad
We should have taken bent or defoe
One - Two touch football
Lampard looked off the ball

It would seem that saying England "is rubbish" is now just the popular thing to do. Yes, the performance was pretty weak through most of the game, but they did come back and score 2 - 0.

It would have been a different story if they had drawn, or even worse, lost.

Give 'em a bit of a break!

Right, in the spirit of what is apparently the average England fan, I'm going to list some negative points:

1) Lampard played a good portion of that match like a complete gimboid.
2) Gerrard left it awfully late to get into top gear.
3) Crouch wasn't entirely convincing.
4) Rooney didn't really make his presence felt all that much once he came on.
5) Some of Beckham's passes weren't good at all.

And now, some balance:

6) Lennon. That guy has some serious pace, and really shook things up on that wing. Just what was needed.
7) Crouch's goal was an example of what he's capable of when he actually uses his height. Just needs to do that more often.
8) Beckham's crosses really are good when he's on it.
9) Gerrard does score some marvellous goals :)
10) 2 Two goals against T&T is two more than Sweden managed!
