Drop Lampard for the next game, just let Gerrard play football for once and Sven will see how good he his. Hes given Lampard his chance now give gerrard his.

That would be the way to go unless he can find another role for Lampard

I dont think there is another role for him. He cant play a holding midfield role and hes a winger. Only real alternative would be to play a holding midfielder but that would mean only one striker.

just seen the bbc coverage of the Crouch goal,he grabbed the defenders dreads and pulled his head out of the way

For all you lot slating Owen, perhaps it would be better if our lovely team would play a ball on the ground to him for once. Not one decent pass in both games that I've seen, Crouch isn't an alternative imo, he can just about handle the lofted ball, but he's so weak he just gets pushed away if marked properly.

Give Owen a full game and he'll score - there's a reason most of the goals in this cup are coming late on.

exactly! owen is an awesome player when hes setup, all the balls are going long and crosses in no one has gave him the chance he needs tbh yet hes taking a slatting because of this :(

If Owen could get dropped why cant Lampard?

Were you guys watching a different match to me? Both matches attacking wise gerrard has been pap, hes had ONE shot on target in both matches, lampard 7. Sure enough he had one or two prime chances he really should have finished, but they were hard chances and came from nowhere. I don't see the problem with going for a diamond, or even better 3-5-2 in later matches, i think 3-5-2 could suit us very well, especially if the 5th midfielder is JC or maybe even Hargreaves (he does it in german league so  )

Back to Rooney/Owen now imo, crouch has done as an ok stand in, but with rooney able to properly support owen with ground balls the goals should come.

When Lampard plays gerrard is told to stay back its quite clear. He is nowhere near as far forward as he usual gets.

Sven, being the dick-head he is, will probably make a mess of the game against Sweden. It's not important, therfore.

Start Rooney & Owen.

Perhaps bring on Walcott later. I wouldn't play Crouch. He has already proved himself, we know what he is capable of. We need to be sure that Owen can regain his confidence.

May be worth switching Beckham with Gerrard. Ok at first glance you have the best CM in the world playing RM and one of the best RM's in the world playing CM but....
Beckham spends most of his time as a CM anyway, he's also not the type of player that will burst forward so could a Xabi Alonso type role; collecting the ball from the back 4 and spreading it about and allowing Lampard to get forward. Also Gerrard has proven he can play as a RM and still get forward and score. Thats the only way i can see Sven being able to play the 4 of them (Cole, Gerrard, Lampard and Becks) and get some use out of all of them. The only other thing would be to either change formation and play with someone sitting behind Gerrard and Lampard, dropping one of Cole, Beckham or one of the strikers; playing a 4-1-4-1 or 4-1-3-2. Other than that they could straight swap Lampard with a holding midfielder.
It will be interesting to see what happens; he won't drop Beckham and surely can't drop Cole (considering he's been the best player for the last 4-5 games). The only time we will see what he will do is when we play a top side and we have to play a holding midfielder and i expect he will take the easy choice and drop Cole.

Just read the last 10ish pages - some right sad people on this forum lol.

Weeeee lets post criticism every 15 seconds on the internet while the match is still being played! "Omg so **** send him home" etc. Yay I'm so clever!

All I know is there was a beer shower down the pub, twice, and we're through. All good fun, which is what it's about.

Hope they play the Germans, will be a cracker.

Yeah like the last two games.

What was Crouch thinking with the overhead kick! how could he have got it in... his legs a longer than the goal posts! :D Well done to him though, good goal, kept to his promise which meant no robot dance :(

Still a suspect performance but did liven up with Lennon, Sven still doesn’t have a clue though and wont know what to do against Sweden.

Generally yeah, he has no clue. But today he got it right; he realised we didn't need to have 4 at the back and brought Lennon on and even had the bottle to take Owen off rather than Crouch to bring Rooney on.
