World Cup Second Round - Argentina v Mexico **SPOILERS**

Argentina won Mexico 86 :) I agree that home advantage is a powerful thing. I didn't think Portugal played that well in Euro 2004 but they still managed to get to the final.
And got beaten by a very average (in real terms) team

Cracking game that was, was hoping the Mexicans would turn them over but it wasn't to be be. Superb strike for Argentinas second. Heinze should have been sent off and wtf was the ref doing booked someone who was nowhere near where the foul was commited.

I think Argentina played well but because the Mexicans had a blindin game as well it showed up the Argies on occasions.

It was just so sad to see a team go out after that enthralling game. I just wished Mexico went another route to the semis...like against England. It was a beautiful goal to win any game that clinched it for the Argies, good to hear Marquez appreciate that too after the game.

What a great match that was! The Mexicans gave it a right go but in the end quality told but it took one hell of a goal to decide the match. The Argies are scoring some great goals, I reckon they have 2 of the best in this tournament already! Mexico went gung ho on them in that first half but credit to those Argies as they didn't roll over and kept on fighting but on another day maybe Mexico might have. I also doubt the Argies will come across a team who plays much better than Mexico did. They have shown us they can play the fancy footy but also now got stuck in and grinded one out here.

Also how good was Messi on the ball, they couldn't get the ball off him! Also reckon it is time for Tevez to start, he has great tenacity and really does work his socks off. That Mexican dude also impressed me, Zinha i think it was. Looked really hard to knock off the ball and thought he might be able to create a goal but Mexico needed a top quality striker out there.

Actually... Brazilian ;) Yes he did impress, but he came on a time when Argentina were heavily worked already, If he was on from the start of the match he would have been taken care of. Would have liked to seen more of him :(

Messi is not part of the gameplan, that is the thinking of Pekerman. The same thing was done with Ronaldo in 94'. He will be brought in later in the game or as a different tactic, he will have his time to shine. Tevez however I felt should have started, Saviola didn’t have such a good game. I do also think Riquelme was not on top of his game and I hope that I am wrong but when he does not have a good game the passing and movement of Argentina is very skittish, you could see that at the start of the game too when there were a lot of mistakes made by Argentina and the flow just wasn’t there, no credit taken from Mexico though.

Riquelme is the heart beat of that team so when he gets taken out of the game the Argies don't look anywhere near as good. Saviola wasted a great chance today and you are right about Tevez. Thought Tevez does better through the centre but with Crespo there he will have to play on the left side of him and I'm not sure how comfortable he is in that role. Shouldn't have a problem though as with this Argie team the thing that impresses me is how they switch systems very easily and feel at ease playing that way.

As for Messi, you are right Pekerman is protecting him and rightly so but I think he is easing Messi in for later in the tournament when he will play for longer spells. He isn't 100% match fit yet after his injury hence why I think he came on late this game, he looked totally off the pace against Holland and I'm sure Pekerman noticed that.

I think Riquelme is a tad overrated as well. I havn't seen any of the Argentina matches in full during this world cup so I can't really comment on his performances through the tournament. He is a very good player, I just think some people have gone overboard in how much they rate him.

I think he is brilliant. For Villareal he has been brilliant and thanks to him Forlan jointly won the golden boot in Europe. Also helped them qualify for the CL and to be honest they were a whisker away from knocking us out and making it an all spanish final. Also he is the heart beat of this Argentina side which has looked the best in the world cup so far. Just because he doesn't do fancy tricks and score goals I think some people don't really understand his role. Like the same experts who can't seem to see what Pirlo does for Milan and Xavi does for Barca. .....

The deep lying player maker role is not something common in England, apart from maybe Carrick England don't have a single player who really can do it well and no teams here in England really use it.
