In THIS world cup?!?

I dont he ever will be back in control of a FIFA game - no way will they let him back, just dont expect that many cards of a game of this standard...

The ref just started on the wrong foot and gave cards for nothing tackles, he wasnt consistent (he should have given more really looking at what he gave initially)...

I don't disagree with you. I just didn't want to suggest anything. And yes, if he had been consistent the game could have ended even earlier due to everyone being off the field (or lynching him)

I reckon the FA's stuffed a wad of Euros under this refs door!!
Not the first Russian football official to help us in a World Cup ;). Lets hope we get him in the final (cough) :p...

Wonder if hes any relation to '66 man...

that was terrible tbh, ref was crazy throwing around cards like confetti.. spoiled what could have been a belter of a match. That said it was fun, if for the wrong reasons. Least he won't ruin any more games after this.

both team played dirty but portugal just got lucky and i think where the better side we had 3good chances to get a goal but we where alittle bit unlucky supporting ENGLAND NW COME ON ENGLAND

I was soooo hoping for an equaliser,an extra 30 mins would have seen at least 1 more red :)

Same here, it was a funny game last night. Portugal did well i suppose but i so badly wanted the Dutch to equalise...take it into extra time and watch as a few more other players get sent off:p.

My god that ref was terrible though, ruined the game tbh. If anything ive never seen anything like it before. 3 sending offs and numerous yellows:p.

Despite all the reds and yellows, i have to admit that was one enjoyable game though especially the little ruck that happened as well. Loved the way Deco got man handled but Cocu but Deco gets sent off??. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

FIFA WORLD CUP 2006 DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP ELECT

gold arjen robben (personal best)
silver louis figo
bronze dirk kuyt (seasons best)

what a disgrace to football. i just knew it when i saw the ref that the match would have some silly decisions. he referees the cl matches as well. how can he be one of the best? (to referee a world cup anyway)

wasn't rivaldo banned for faking an injury once? i can't remember if the referee saw it or not..he made out as if he was punched in the face but he obviously wasn't.

I think Van Bommel would pip Robben on that and push everyone down one. Don't think Figo merits that...

Don't see how anyone can knock Figo at the moment, his world cup form has been brilliant

Yeah, he's actually looked like a player again - I've thought he's been past it for the past couple of years, but all of a sudden he has found something from somewhere.

As for the ref, it certainly wasn't the worst performance I've ever seen. He was reasonably consistent, and unlike most he didn't bottle dishing out cards if he (rightly or wrongly) felt they were deserved. So many times you see refs not give a second yellows to players who commit a 2nd bookable offence. The players certainly didn't make things easy for him, it was a dirty game coupled with plenty of diving.

That said, he seemed to be one of those what I would call 'pocketbook-referees'; the only tool he knows to try and control the game is by dishing out cards, he wasn't talking to players or commanding respect another way. That's what set Collina apart, he was quite strict but at the same time would talk to players, explain his decisions, and let the game flow where he could.

Excactly right, he gave Holland two yellow cards in the first 6 minutes :o
Even though they may have been fouls worthy of a card he could also have given a warning explaining that that is unacceptable in his book.

I cant believe Portugal are contesting Decos' 1st yellow
The 2nd was soft for throwing the ball away, but the 1st was for taking a player out from behind, borderline red in a match that was already nasty.

No point blaming the ref for the game or decisions tho,he got little wrong,it was just a case of two teams trying to cheat each other out of the match,it was all their own doing.
