World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

So after further reading I've come to realise that 10 bit colour is pretty much no point on PC on par with some of the points mentioned previously. 8 bit + dithering = indistinguishable from 10 bit native, at least with nVidia setups anyway on PC. I have not read up on AMD setups.

I guess the question is what do people prefer, 144Hz 10 bit, to 175Hz 8 bit. You don't need 10 bit for HDR either, since 8 bit + dither produces the same tones necessary for effective HDR and I haven't seen any differences here either. So we roll back to the question, 144Hz or 175Hz? Some reviews recommend 144Hz to reduce vrr flicker that /some/ people can see, but most (inc myself) can't - So there is a valid point for those users I guess.

I think I will experiment and drop to 8 bit 175Hz and if any time I notice problems like banding/flickering, switch to 144 10 bit.

I fully suspect that indeed, 8bit vs 10bit shows no difference visually on PC on both nVidia and AMD tbh so yep, I guess ideal option is to get the 175z and stick to 8 bit until a time comes when a difference is noticed in some content

HDR Peak 1000 setting here btw, watching a HDR movie and when they shine torches in the dark the light from the torch as it hits the camera is bright as the sun. Nice little bit of immersion on things like that from HDR :D

Dell have announced a strikingly similar looking monitor but with VA panel and much lower specs: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/d...de-curved-lcd-compatible-with-usb-type-c.html

Interesting that the stand that one has is using the same slot in mechanism as the QD-OLED, so you could use that stand which takes up way less desk space.

Have to say I think I would take a good implementation of a QD-LED VA over anything else at the moment - with at least 100Hz and adaptive sync, for uses other than competitive FPS. Some of the other tech just isn't ready yet (or at least the manufacturing maturity of the finished product).

Nah, this would be a mistake. I have changed qd va(Acer x35) to qd oled and its just different world.
All va's smear/overshoot which is unaccepatble.

Hence why I said good implementation ;) I have a Philips 436M6 - one of a very few VAs with no real smear/overshoot. It isn't perfect by any means but with proper 4K HDR content and dialling in the blacks a bit it looks phenomenal.

Me too. Glad your theory was wrong :)

@Nexus18 at first I thought I messed up by cancelling my 2am order. Turns out I did the right thing. No hassle and only had to wait an extra week, which worked out as my complaints got me a nice discount :D

I won’t gloat just yet though, they may have sent me a dud.

Haha does seem so! I reckon if I had cancelled my first order, second would have been delivered by now. Certainly won't be rushing again

Thanks man :)

Does bode well for orders that got shifted from April to June or later. Might get them earlier.

@Nexus18 When are you sending your one back?

Sometime next week, not sure which day yet as my second is still showing 6th shipment date, I have a feeling it will be pushed back though.... Think as long as I initiate the return within 14 days, it doesn't matter when it arrives back. If my second order gets pushed further back, definitely complaining to get more discount :p

Pretty sure most Dell monitors use that same clip in stand mounting - it looks identical to the one on my 7 year old U3415W and current AW3821DW along with almost all of the Dell monitors I've dealt with through work.

Still no change in order status here :( Damn you guys getting yours today... enjoy your monitors :)
