'It really is just the old model, with the same weaknesses, bumped up to 240hz.'
I read a few months back this panel will have the Gen2 display, but guess not.
My original 3423DW hasn't missed a beat, great panel, and if this new one is essentially the same but just 240hz, then I'll keep using my DW and run it into the ground until they release one with a Gen3 or higher panel, like they have for their 32" 4k and 27" 360hz panels.
I respect the price though, and a great buy for someone who's looking for a 34" OLED who doesn't already own the original.
I'm in the same boat as you, Got the AW3423DW, Lovely monitor and if there's nothing that's actually newer from Alienware then I'll stick with it for as long as possible.
A gen 3, 3440x1440 240Hz panel would be lush though AND with the same white styling as the AW3423DW as I think that looks so classy.
But there is burn in at the end of the day. I am sure these burn in marks will show up in grey scenes and break your gaming immersion.I've used mine for productivity (work from home as a software developer) 5 days a week since September 2022, and played Lost Ark fairly heavily during that time. I stopped Lost Ark in January this year, but still work from home 5 days a week. My out of work use is now various games, streaming, and browsing.
Mine has slight burn in from Lost Ark hotbar and Lost Ark top of screen status bar, but absolutely nothing from productivity.
I find it only noticeable when watching SDR content that doesn't have full black, or the right kind of grey in its place. But there is burn in at the end of the day. I am sure these burn in marks will show up in grey scenes and break your gaming immersion.
I am sick of having to baby OLED. I just got a reburb replacement from Gigabyte UK due to burn in (took less than 7 months to burn in for me, work related). Selling this sucker off as I have gone back to VA.I find it only noticeable when watching SDR content that doesn't have full black, or the right kind of grey in its place.
My monitor actually wanted to panel refresh last night, and that has improved matters again. Each refresh is improving things. At 5% grey the hot bar is barely noticeable, at 10% you can make it out, 15% is barely noticeable again, and 20% it is gone.
Still, productivity has not been the cause for me over almost 3 years of heavy daily use. I'll RMA as my burn in warranty ends in September, and pretty sure what I get back will be great for another 3 years+

I wish people would use monitors correctly in the first place.
How do you use a monitor correctly other than just looking at it ? I've just been looking at my various monitors for years, Was I meant to do something else ? Serenade them and give them kisses ? Tell me Yoda, I need to know !
OLED's aren't meant for work usage, they're for gaming. Maybe some research next time young Padawan?
OLED's are meant for entertainment in general not just games, Besides if you are careful and practice things like hiding the taskbar, Screen refresh every 4 hours, Dark background, No static images for too long etc... doing work with them is just fine.
The people who leave up static images for ages and then wonder why they have burn in though make my brain itch![]()
I turned on all of the Gigabyte OLED care features from day 1, but OLED still cannot handle work usage.Sure, but work is not their ideal use-case, which is the point I'm trying to make and you can bet people aren't taking precautions and then they complain.
Thanks for this, will look into ordering some. It would not leave behind some smudges would it? As these QD-OLED panels are very sensitive (clearly). I've even used some distilled water on clean q tips and that has left some very light smudging behind which I have no desire to touch and cause other issues.I RARELY touch my OLED TV. I have this 1 microfibres that I use for it and I only use it to gently "drape" over it to remove dust.
For my £200 OLED side monitor, I am the same but some reason less careful lol perhaps because it is much cheaper.
If I want to do a wet clean on anything that I care for, I use one of these. Comes in a box of 200. I use it to clean my camera lenses, like £2,000 camera lenses.

Clean as a whistle, and covered in bacteria, just like mineI just use a microfiber cloth and my breath, Breathe into the cloth until it's warm and slightly damp then wipe away, My monitor is clean as a whistle.
