World of Warcraft: Classic

Gone warrior tank on dreadmist, already had dps and a healer in our group, so thought I’d try tank out. Never played a tank before on wow so will be learning off the bat. Hoping I don’t suck too much once I get to dungeons lol

There's been a lot of tripe posted in this thread about the OcUK Alliance guild that eventually moved to NoggenFogger. Rather than sitting in queues all day we moved to a very active server with little to no queues which has allowed us to actually play the game, just like we did this evening when we did a Deadmines run. 4 of the group were from the guild with a tank being found externally. Completed the instance with minimal deaths and maximum enjoyment.

If you're looking for a guild where you are free to do your own thing or join up with guild mates to take on bigger encounters in a casual and supportive environment then pop on discord and join in the fun! Next run is tomorrow evening approximately 7pm UK time, 8pm Server time.

Been a warrior tank main since BC. It's fantastic fun. It can get hectic at times, my best advice is to learn what tools you have available in your whole group, not just you. Stuns, CCs, etc. Ask for the lead spot and mark stuff up. Learn to strafe kite (youtube it) and get some good tanking addons. I used tidy plates & threat plates, and get some form of debuff timer. It's all about knowing exactly which mob has which debuff and making sure you're applying them in rotation, particularly sunder armor. Try keep that up at all times on all mobs, then rend, and if you're taking loads of physical damage, then thunderclap. It'll take practice, you'll be the cause of loads of wipes in the beginning, but when you master it it's the most satisfying feeling in the game, and I talk with 10 years experience here.

I've never mained a DPS, always been a plate tank (warrior / pala / DK), and also healed quite a bit. If you want to heal for a bit then go for it, you'll learn tonnes and it'll improve your tanking dramatically as you'll know exactly what your healers are up to and what you can do to make their life easier.

Good luck, don't be afraid to ask, and make sure you tell people you're new so they manage their expectations. Many will even offer advice and tips, but you'll obviously also frequently get Jonny the 13 year old who whinges and whines. As a tank you need just as thick a skin out of the game as you do in-game, you are responsible for the group after all.

Oh and planning. I don't mean each individual fight as you go, but if you know you're gonna run deadmines in the evening, then research the fights as they're actually a challenge again compared to retail. Knowing what to do and what to expect is 90% of the job done.

Also pick up mining for the +stamina buff and grind it out. Grab any potions, buff foods, anything you can to make yourself tougher. That's your most important thing. Forget DPS at first and concentrate 100% on survivability. Once you gain confidence in your tanking you'll need to focus on your Threat Per Second (TPS). I'm getting ahead now however, just focus on staying alive.

Then at max level you'll start learning about hit cap, block cap etc.

It's immense fun, good luck!

On the subject of tanking, what's happened to Omen Threat Meter? It's not even on the Twitch app as far as I can see. I seem to recall it being the number one must have add on for groups/dungeons. Has it been replaced by something else?

I think they're still in development tbh. Not many good addons out yet (or I'm looking in the wrong places). Can't even find an auction addon :/

What are the queues like? It's winning our poll atm.

I'll be honest, not great. If you have Teamviewer installed it's easy to work around, if you're playing casual once you get home and want to just jump on I wouldn't move here.

If you have long term goals and want to raid and be part of a good english community, I can't recommend it more at present.

Really comes down to what you have in mind for WoW classic :) The queues will sort themselves out as the hype settles down over the next few weeks.

That's the problem: I want it all. I wanna get home and log on to an English speaking server with no queues and raid later on.

I'd make a fantastic wife.

Anyone seen the unbelievable cheese the fastest levelling player on classic is up to.

Aggros large numbers of mobs, aoe freezes and slows them and aoes them to death as a mage. Solo.

Mostly everyone else looking for game fame and the stream dream is abusing dungeons in 5m I believe.

Some have been planning it for two years. No way I could find that uninterrupted time even with a week off work. Fun to try though for those that can.
