World Of Warcraft

Not really, I played it for a while, bout a year and 10 months or something, was much better before the burning crusade came out though, I hated the sci-fi type settings that it brung as pre-tbc felt true medieval type fantasy game but tbc ruined that.

i agree with everything you said, i got rank 12 was 1 week from rank 13 when they announced the honor changes and it was quite a dissapointment.

pvp pretty much sucks now, warlocks, rogues, warriors and hunters are just stupid and the gear resets and level cap increases just kill all the fun for me and with blizzards focus clearly on arena performance classes are getting nerfed for the wrong reasons. also the lead developer plays a warrior and just recently started playing a mage and since then has made it known that he is unhappy with the buffs he gave to hunters so expect some nerfs to them soon. (like the nerfs to mana drains which he obviously finds overpowered now he plays a mage)

BUT you can still have fun! the pve side can be good especially if you find a decent guild with good people in it. they're releasing another expansion in a few months and increasing the level cap again.

I was in the top guild on Stormreaver Xanadu Legacy, i used to be a hardcore raider, i was also in a guild that did a video on 8 man Onyxia reign of chaos. i just didnt find it appealing anymore, i enjoyed pve but not as much as pvp. crossrealm didnt do much for me either. i think its about the time crossrealm started it went downhill for me.

I wasnt in the top guild but i was in a pretty decent one cleared zg,mc bwl,aq20 and was starting on aq40 and getting attuned for naxx when i started to pvp.

i remember waiting 2 or 3 hours for bg's so crossrealm basically unleashed pvp for me at the time i didn't realise how low pop my server was because it was recommended when i signed up so it was pretty much a godsend and i still met a lot of the same premades and randoms in bg's. i remember a lot of good ab/wsg games, enjoyed it a lot and i miss my premade, most fun i ever had online tbh made a lot of good friends most of them fell out of contact with which is a bit of a shame really..

i think it went downhill for me when they introduced the new bc talents at lvl 60.

Above poster is right, WOW isnt the best MMO ever, SWG would beat it to a bloody pulp! but then SWG's dead. WOW is the best MMO of the current time, if your looking to lose some hours in a fantasy world every now and then its perfect. Just dont get too addicted like some of us do!

Why? It is better than WoW in every way. :)

WoW is the first person shooter of mmorgs (Point, click, spam attack) EQ2 is more of a RPG, it has got the D&D feel to it.

TBH id go for LOTROL. I had a stint of DDO and thought it was great until i realised EVERYTHING is instanced based and no large areas or decent crafting like most other MMO's i.e. i was going to have to pay over £10 a month to play a guildwars type game.

DDO also feels like it was just a BETA for LOTROL, the graphics and sounds are very simular.

EDIT: I have to say that in my 3 days of playing DDO i never, at any point, had any trouble finding groups to get with. It only cost me £3 and i still have free time left to play so still a bargin.

I think WoW was borked by Before the Storm - but nevertheless, I think, as an MMO-er, it's one of those games which you should try at least once.

EQ2 is a lot more "spam attack" than WoW imo. The thing about WoW is that on the surface it seems very simple and easy, but once you scratch the surface it is a quite in-depth game with some decent story lines (which I like) and some horrendous grinds (which I don't like).

To the OP, is it worth getting into? well 10 million people worldwide obviously think so, but a few people here obviously don't - it's all down to personal opinion. I suggest you play the 10 day trial and continue playing until you don't enjoy it anymore.

To iBot and Sinny - the old honour grind system was a complete joke. I'm so glad they got rid of that terrible system.

I played EQ2 to start with, and i was used to nwn (online) D&D which is totally more involved in the way you create a charactor and in ways you have to fight bosses.

In any mmo i never felt as attached to a charactor like with nwn. Every mmo is easy as you dont loose xp/items when you die, you can rest wherever and regain health by standing still, which makes it a very easy game. Of course they wouldnt make you loose xp, the kind of people that are in this '10 million' would quit within a day. WoW is easy and very easy to get into, EQ2 feels more hardcore (although not much) the only hard thing about WoW is that you have to play 24/7 to keep up with any end game stuff - this is where it becomes a chore.

But if your a casual player then youll probably get the most enjoyment out of wow just for the reason that its easy to get into.

On another note im sure there is one guy out there who follows me through every mmo i try. Hes the one that always spams you with invites and then writes 'Come' or 'follow' and if you do follow him he always runs ahead in an instance and gets killed straight away (never seems to use heal pots), then starts spamming 'heal'

I know him well.

You can spot "that bloke" coming a mile away. He'll be the one that jumps.

Everywhere. He. Goes.

He jumps in Ogrimmar.
He jumps in Darnassus.
He jumps in Ironforge.
He jumps in instances.
He jumps in duels.
He jumps in trades.
He jumps when he's mining.
He jumps when he enchants.

The <censored> even jumps when he's afk.

And oh boy is he in jumping heaven when you join his group. Bouncy bouncy bouncy, like the Ever Ready Bunny jacked up on meth, stopping only to grace you with classics like "lol hve u got ne wool" or "my bro kiled tha tree in ashenval". It's a difficult choice.. would I prefer him to engage me in this heady intellectual dialogue, or just watch him jump for an hour?

I saw who I consider to be some sort of Elite Jumper in Ironforge last year. Perhaps he was the King of Jumpers, I dunno. But that guy had it down pat, he barely touched the floor, so graceful was his space bar adventure. He'd mapped a cry and laugh macro and targetted me while i was at the auctionhouse. Bounce bounce bounce, lol, lol, lol. Bounce bounce bounce, cry, cry, cry. The following week, I saw him again, in Ironforge doing the same thing to a bunch of people by the Postbox.

I hate the jumpers with a fiery passion that would melt faces.

Random stuff...
LOL! They are all RPGs, thats what they all have in common. Some just go into more depth than others, like any game. DDO is pretty crap.

It can be more "spam attack" than WoW depending what class you play and how you play it. Some scouts for example are totally insane. But then you have a lot more spells and abilities that do a lot more varied things than in WoW. You sometimes have to spam, yes, but you have to do it properly! You have to make sure you do things in the right way. In WoW it doesn't really matter as much. Other classes are the exact opposite. You can't spam at all and you have to do eveything with perfect structure. That's one thing that makes EQ2 great imo, as it has such variety in its classes. It has 24, WoW has 9.

WoW is also, imo, never in-depth. Even at the highest levels it is no more involving than the day you started playing. In EQ2 there is huge variety from level 1 to end game. To me at least EQ2 just seems a much more complete and mature game. Not totally sure which has better stories as I can't say I read every quest etc, otherwise it would take forever! lol. Both games do have some interesting stuff going on though.

Didn't play EQ2 all that much I confess. Got a necro to about lvl 40 I think. It just seemed to me that every class I played had exactly the same spells/abilities with different names. My own personal preference is for a smaller number of different classes than a large number of similar classes /shrug

i can think of a lot of mmo's though where each race have very similar spells just named slightly differently.

play RF online. its free. and nice gfx. people say there is a lot of grinding, but i feel that its nowhere near as much as something like WoW. you can get to lvl 30 in a matter of days, and it also doesnt have a watered down pvp system like some other mmo's out there.

its originally a phillipines game, so there is some 'engrish' present, but none the less, its a great game (imo)

or realized early on that it didnt do anything good of different and what it did do was done better in other games?

No, it took the best from other games and put them all into one game. Absolutetly blinding game, but it all depends on your preference. I played in one of the top raiding guilds on ls and had a great time. The raids were a real craic. But its one of those games that can be enjoyed in all kinds of ways, pvp, pve, solo or with a guild. I dont play anymore but probably the most fun Ive had in an online game.

I slate it for my own good reasons.

The pvp system changed dramatically, after all the hard earned time i invested into getting Warlord gear was wasted, kids could grind the gear within a week of constant play and everyone had the gear. Made my time feel wasted and was very sore about it, same goes for every other player who got to the rank.

40 Man raids were the highlight of the week, not because they were easier/harder but because of the social path it used to create, 40 people who knew each other well having a laugh as well as progressing was great fun.

Gear was balanced and classes were not that overbalanced versus same/other classes, as soon as the next tier of spells came it made many people angry due to the fact some of them were very easy to use, very high critical effects came back and some classes just were simply easier to play.

PVP tactics changed from teqniques that you needed to master to simple button slamming which is what i hate in msot of todays mmorpgs, instead of moving around you can deal very high damage with hardly moving.

Grinding money was easy enough if you knew where to go and Potions/enchants did not cost very much and you could just afford to buy an epic mount by the time you were 60 or a few weeks later, now everything is highly overpriced and you need to loose your soul to afford the higher end mounts.

Guilds started to become very elite about themselves even the smaller ones as soon as they started to progress and because the game became easy younger people started to play.

i could say a lot more why it ended for me and most probably for many other people, it was a great game that turned to the pits. hopefully it will die and a new game will come out that will steal its thunder.
There is so much wrong with this post I don't even know where to start.
