World War Z is currently being filmed in Glasgow city centre. I've had a look around the last few days. They have really done a lot of work to the 'set'. The road markings have been changed to american style markings, the traffic lights have also been changed along with street signs. Lots of american style cars, trucks and buses have been shipped in and parked on the street.

My fav has to be the four or five army style Humvees that lined the street along side the SWAT vans. Most of the streets around George square are closed off for filming, but you can still walk down the street during the day. Lots of people running around taking photos and a buzzing atmosphere. Anyone else seen anything interesting?

There are rumours that it is not going to follow the format of the book, a bit more like a preventing a zombie apocalypse movie.

Might read the book again before the film comes out.

The best bit is Glasgow (with some US cars) is replacing a post zombie run down Philidelphia! :D

Hopefully the zombie apocolypse will still happen rather than have Brad Pitt save the day again :(

Amazing book, if there is a film I'll definitely try and see it.

Though I hope that it stays true to the book and going by what you guys are posting, it looks like it won't be D:

They have actually cleaned the street, there's no way you can tell its Glasgow! If they went a bit further to the east end they can film all the post apocalyptic buck fast infected zombies they like!

World War Z

So I'm flicking through the BBC website and come across some pictures from the shoot on World War Z in Scotland and I couldn't help but think "why not just film it in Philadelphia"? I mean, how much does the license to film cost, how much are local office putting their arm into the production companies for? Would it not be cheaper to have yellow taxis supplied by a yellow taxi firm in Philadelphia instead of renting them from someone who has imported them here, or did they bring the cars themselves? It must be a pretty significant chunk of change for them to say "**** YOU! WE'RE GOING TO SCOTLAND TO FILM PHILADELPHIA!".

It's not like A Game Of Thrones which is being shot mostly in Northern Ireland because Northern Ireland has some amazing countryside (and I'd even go as far as to say that "the north" in A Game Of Thrones is better shot in the Scottish highlands because it has even more spectacular scenery) and we've got the old paint halls where sets can be built.

I don't see how anyone could expect it to follow the plot of the book. The book has no real narrative, it would make a dreadful film.

That said, I don't see the point in naming it World War Z, was the "Dead" license not worth the money for them?

World War Z was never going to make a good film. A TV series doing the interviews and flashbacks as a straight up conversion telling the story over months of episodes would be the only way to do it justice.

I'd like to be proven wrong but I can never really see Brad Pitt as a good hero. I always thought he's better off in dramas and comedies.
