World War Z

The film was not too bad, watched it with the wife and she decided to read the book. Wow the book is great no wonder they decided to make a film but when did they **** it up? The film is nothing like the book at all I can now understand why the fans of the book were complaining.

I was hoping that the original ending would be on the BR but looks like its just an unrated version. The whole battle in Russia thing would have been so much better than walking around in Wales :/

I enjoyed it tbh, certainly a lot better than I was expecting. The scenes in the facility in Wales really had a 'The Last of Us' vibe about them.

I will certainly give this a repeat viewing, which is a rarity for me these days.

The book is awesome, it is written in such a way as to be incredibly believable. Replace Zombies with any other pandemic and it could be so believable.

I turned it off. I just don't have the patience for it. Terrible script and poorly executed in my opinion. I lasted about 45 mins.

Im on 55 minutes now and there's not much happening but it seemed ok prior to this.
Ill post when its finished :p

I watched it again the other day and the wall in israel makes no sense to me.

The scene cuts from a walled city of israel where they're all being overran, to an open fielded airport, that seemingly has no walls? PLus the only source of Zed's are coming from behind.

Are people here forgetting this is a zombie film? I was astounded to see a zombie film with such high production values. I'm used to low budget makeup with the plot consisting of 'the black guy dies first' and then everyone dies at the end.

This felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the generic rubbish like the (remake of) Dawn Of The Dead.

And yes I just started reading the book, but I hate it when I'm surrounded by people who go "that's not how it was in the book OMG!" - I had several friends who just would not shut up when we saw the last two Harry Potter films. Made me want to bash them over the head with the damn book!

And seriously, having to turn the film off? If you don't like action/zombie films, why even bother watching it? It was fairly obvious what type of film it is. Or are you the type of people where nothing is ever good enough and every film sucks (read: hating everything that is popular makes you cool)

The wall is supposed to be pretty big, surrounding the city. It can look a bit confusing though, as the aerial shots show the wall they have built, then you can see the Walls of Jerusalem in the background which make it look like its contained to only a small area.

Yes you don't see any walls at the airfield, but thats not to say there aren't some far in the distance. Given that when they land its perfectly fine, its safe to say that the airport was secure. The zombies are all coming from the same direction they have run from, but given how quickly they can turn, they could have taken the entire airport area very fast.

Ive not read the book but the film is crap 5/10 from me. Crap ending, ridiculous plot that was so fantastical i laughed.

It had some cool bits but mostly outshadowed by stupid.

Have read the book a couple of times years ago but was still looking forward to seeing the movie even though it was known it wasn't a faithful adaption. I was still keen on seeing the first big budget zombie movie in years.

I thought it was alright. It depicted how fast poop would hit the fan if runner zombies were loose pretty well. Frankly we as a species would get wiped out within 3 days I reckon.

Visually it was very impressive even though the lack of blood was a massive let down. My main gripe was with the Zs appearing to work together to ladder up each other etc. That was stupid even though it looked cool.

Such a shame we never got to see the epic 'battle of Yonkers' :(

Goes down as the most disappointing film of the decade as far as I'm concerned.

Some people here live in a very sheltered environment if this was the most disappointing film of the decade for them. Or they have ridiculously high hopes for films.

As for Dawn of the Dead, it is awful in comparison with the original. Full of cliches and plot holes.

But yes, compared to other zombie films it is watchable, not as good as 28 Days Later.

That was the point I was making, World War Z was more enjoyable for me as a zombie film as it took it to a more global scale as opposed to the (incredibly) generic, "we are stuck in a mall and eventually the zombies will get in and kill off a black guy".

I understand it was disappointing compared to the book, but that is why I don't try to do a direct comparison between the book and film (they are a different medium entirely - you can't expect it to be identical). Going into the film with zero expectations often results in more enjoyment of the actual film, and less butthurt.

Just watched this and rather enjoyed it.

I thought it does the suspense quite well and really had me on the edge of my seat. The worst bits for me were, what I would imagine, the directors and co were creaming over and that was the big battle scenes.

The Jerusalem part was the worst of the film, so OTT it was just plan silly. Most other parts were quite well done and enjoyable.

I haven't read the book which probably helps but all in all a really good watch for me.
