Just checking in after the hurricane passed over.
Sadly several people have died in the Richmond, I beleive 1 boy of 11 whena tree smashed their appartment, and an odler man drove into a fallen tree. There are hundreds of trees blown down with about a third of the roads blocked. Electricity went out around noon yesterday and might not be back for several days. Currently 375,000 homes are without electricity in the area (which must be a vast majority). Lots of power lines down across roads as well.
Highest reported gust was nearly 70MPH in the area, not severe but all the trees are in full leaf. I've definitiely experienced more severe storms in Scotland in winter, but not this amount of destruction. Over most of the period thw winds were moderate with strong gusts, but for a few horus the gusts became very strong. The most notible feature for me was the rain, over 18 horus of continuous very heavy rain. Not severe in intensity at any point but relentless without a minutes break. Easy to see why some areas recieved over 15 inches of rain!
Luckily the nearby University has electricy and internet, and AC for that matter / supposed to get really hot today.
Now just a sunny day but there a trees, branches, leaves and garbage everywhere.
