Just bought some tesco branded charcoal briquette as local shop ran out of normal charcoal. Got to say its the worst charcoal i have ever used. It simply does not work. They shouldn't be allowed to sell this rubbish, no wonder British struggle with bbq so much and resort to only burgers. This coal is pathetic, i put 8 lots of firelighters in and the charcoal simply does not light. How can they sell charcoal that simply does not work it?

Im not messing around with that rubbish, trying to get it too work is a fools game. Just last week i was at my sisters house having a bbq. What did i do there? i put some charcoal in the bbq and then four blocks of firelighters and boom, we have a bbq going. Didn't need to do a thing but move some coal around. The coal simply does not work. Definitely the winner of the worse charcoal i have ever seen. Soon as it came out the bag i knew it was not going to work, it is this light shiny look to it that you just know is fake charcoal.

I sent tesco an email letting them know that they are selling charcoal that simply does not work and that they are ruining the bbq industry.

Works with poor quality briquettes in my experience.

I even think i saw lumps of what looks like polystyrene that has come off the coal. Maybe thats what they do, they take real coal and mix it with some BS to make it super airy and cut back on costs. When heated it leaves these weird white things in the bbq that sort of melt. ill see if i can take a picture.

The heat coming off that charcoal is not existent i can hold my hands right above it without any issues and its been lit for about 30 mins.

Selling such bad coal on mass like tesco will probably sell millions of bags this summer, seriously negatively affects the bbq industry because all these people who use the coal and think they cant start a fire, meanwhile its the coal that is fake.

Perhaps its a faulty bag of charcoal??...next time use decent charcoal rather than the cheapo tesco stuff.
