I'm back baby!
I present to you: The Killers.

Awesome first album. Hit the shelves and was popular from that very second. Good sound, good lyrics, clever songs, all-round good album.

Shockingly shower of ***** second album. The worst music I've heard since the Crazy Frog. What a let-down. Mediocre (at best) lyrics and music, with wailing over the top.

Gutted.

I think when the Stone Roses finally released The Second Coming it was a big disappointment to me after having waited so long but when I listen to it now I find I really quite like it.

Audioslave - Out of Exile

I loved their first album, was less than overwhelmed by their second... :(

Not sure if by "follow-up", you mean second, but third is "follow-up" to second, so I submit: Muse - Absolution. They had such potential, but they've just wasted it turning themselves into some obscure disco band. It makes me sad

Do you mean Black Holes and Revelations? Absolution isn't "disco" at all.

(and even if you did, BHAR is awesome - only the first 4 songs are disco-y!)

The Darkness, first album was pompous class, second one...omfg

Completely agreed. Add the Scissor Sisters to that too, I thought their first album was awesome.

First one that comes to mind is classic 70's rock band MONTROSE.
Their first album should be in every rock fans collection but the 2nd was awful.

Haha, was thinking the very samething. And I agree about The Stone Roses, nothing much was expected of it as far as I can remember the record company just cut their loses and put out what they had.

At the moment I'm not expecting much from Hard-Fi's follow up album but hopefully they can prove me wrong.

Jokester

Killers - - should have stayed with thier english indie sound
Star Sailor - couldnt get into the 2nd album at all

slightly off topic:

Third album for a lot of bands is the make or breaker (coldplay so very dissapointing)

no, I meant what I said - the phrasing's just a bit crappy. I was trying to imply that Absolution was crap, and NOW they're a disco band. I tried to like BHAR and Absolution, and I just couldn't. It made me sad

Stereophonics - JEEP

Jesus wept.
JEEP? That was like 3 albums too late!

First 2 albums were good, after that it went to the dogs..

didn't Gilly say "follow-up" - that's anything after the first one

Oh right, thought you were implying that Absolution was disco music :p

Incidentally I love both albums. Got some fantastic songs on them, and both work well as a whole. (in my opinion, of course!)
