Worst follow-up album ever?

I did just mean the follow-up to the first album (ie, the 2nd) but no biggy :)

There's been lots of poor follow-ups if we're not just looking at 2nd albums.

Prodigy after Jilted Generation

I could go on...

eh? Fat of the Land was a truly awesome Album! If you'd of said after Fat of the Land, I would agree!

FOTL was shocking. Absolutely shocking. They were ace before it. Such a shame.

Audioslave - Out of Exile

I loved their first album, was less than overwhelmed by their second... :(
That's the one I had in my mind.

Absolute ******.

What were they thinking letting that "solo" in on track 5 (Drown Me Slowly). Tom morello's "Wierd sounds" aren't wierd; they just ruin songs, and annoy the listener to the point of turning off the CD player..

Another guitar abomination on this album came on "The Worm".

I mean, the songs are bad enough with out him trying to act like a guitar god over the top.

Hate the *****. Can't stand her, but you can't deny that (a long time ago) she had talent.

Looking at her back then she'd well have had it too ;)

If we are allowed to count albums that were follow-ups to albums that weren't the band's first:

Trivium - The Crusade
Ascendancy was one of the best metalcore albums I have heard. The Crusade is just a bad copy of 80s thrash metal which wouldn't be too bad if the songs were good. They aren't.

And Madonna has always been great just less great at certain points than others :p

I wouldn't say it was 'shocking'. It wasn't a patch on the preceeding stuff but there was still some good stuff on it. Breath and Mindfields are two tracks that spring to mind.

Radiohead after The Bends
U2 after The Joshua Tree

I agree with most of your choices but the two albums that followed the above are regarded as some of the greatest of all time.

Doesn't change the fact that OK Computer is poor. It sounds like the kind of album you get into in your mid-late teens to show that you have outgrown pop music and now listen to real artistic stuff

but but but....Q Magazine says it's the best album of all time!!!

There does seem to be a tendency for bands to lose the ability to make a decent album after a few releases, may be they just get older and complacent. Examples I can think of are REM - haven't made a good album since Automatic For the People, New Order - haven't made a decent album since 'Technique', U2 haven't made one since 'Achtung Baby'.

I think we'll just agree to disagree then.

I'd say Pop was one of their best and most complete albums but that's a pretty uncommon opinion. :p

I love Stadium Arcadium for the record, absolutely adore it.

My worst follow up album was: Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare.

Got it as soon as it came out, and hated it, hated everything about it, from the production to the art cover.

First album was awesome, really really great album, this one, it was inevitable that I wouldn't like it.

I really liked Monster, prob my favourite after Automatic, for me REM's main problem is inconsistency - there are plenty of middling to bad albums preceeding Automatic imo
