Worst job you have had in your life.

Well, there were certain routes where there were known bored slappers and some of the trucks would stop off for lunch, which usually consisted of eating a pie with bare unwashed hands which had been carrying rubbish all morning, and the driver, or one of the other chaps who was in on it, would pop off for a ten minute walk and go round there for whatever they got up to. I was aware of at least five of these women, though there were probably a lot more.

Some classy areas up near Oxford.

So On The Buses is true.

Dear Lord.

Mine was working for an office interiors company and selling ceiling tiles and plasterboard to the trade over the phone in an inbound call centre. I have never been so bored in all my life. I lasted 7 months and I'm amazed it was that long.

Holiday job when a student at the Co-Op laundry in Romford.
I had to undo the parcels of laundry that came and sort the items. There was a bucket of dettol solution next to me into which I emptied the poo contents of old men's pyjama bottoms.

When it got too full I emptied it down the toilet and started again.

My job is fine, I actually quite enjoy it however I am micro managed into oblivion, I could go a week without actually doing something on my job description and the COO is a genuinely awful person. Things my COO have said to me off the record outside of the office:

- 'you are just showing up for the money'
- 'if you want to keep arguing with me I will let you go, I can take the cost to the business'. After I was trying to explain that he had the complete wrong end of the stick but wouldn't listen. I got an apology from him halfway through me clearing my desk ready to go presumably because he worked out he does need me.

Needless to say I am looking at alternative places of employment.

some grotty little software house in southend. It dealt with hosting / writing websites for people offering high interest short term loans.

The owner was the worst sort of used car salesman type, there were only 12-15 people working there and they were, bar 1 person, the chavviest group of scumbags you could hope to be stuck in an office with. The sort where you imagined you were about to get knifed if you saw them walking towards you on a night out. The one chap was a lovely bloke , he actually resigned a couple of weeks before i left but was talked back into staying.

The clients were all mates of the owner so assumed they had a say in running it too; so would, daily, phone you up directly and hurl abuse at you down the phone if something didnt look quite right on their webpage.

I stuck it for 3 months then told them to shove it up their arses and walked out in disgust.

Working in a printing factory when I was 15/16. Up at 4am every day. 12hrs of mind numbingly boring work, little breaks. It bucked up my ideas for working harder in my Alevels!

Buckingham foods sandwich factory, part time work for some money when i was younger.

It broke my spirit that quickly 30 minutes into my first shift i excused my self to the toilet and passed the staff room on the way and decided the sofa in there looked comfy. It was.
I did not go back!

Must add i am generally considered to have a good work ethic and be very committed to what ever i do, this however was punishment for a crime i had not even been accused of, I got a great little job in a oriental carpet shop a few days later and loved it.

working in an out of hours business centre
on reception as a security guard for 16hours
4:30pm to 8:30am with nothing to do but
look at a cctv camara.
i left 3 weeks ago (after 4 years) as it drove me mad.

Factory line work got to be the worst job i had when i was a teen, not only was the job very repetitive but the place was full of Turkish and Polish people speaking in their own language, i felt alienated. It didn't last long, i walked out with in 2 hours, got called a racist of all words by the manager/rep of the agency after i explained to her how i felt. :p

I spent two weeks putting school photographs into school photograph-type frames.

The most intensely boring job I've had.

Not as bad but know that experience but from a retail work perspective. I would only recommend retail positions to people who don't enjoy a happy life :o

Worst 2.5years ever.

Apart from unemployment, working for any big company/franchise is dreadful.

Not much wrong with the job, mainly the people who work there.

:p

+1 for factory work. Growing up in Somerset that's all there is and office work is novelty. Worst ever was a trolley factory where I stood for 12 hours picking up un-welded metal squares, putting in machine, pressing button, put welded square to the right.

I worked in a factory operating an envelope insert machine for 2 years 18 years ago.

It was horrible and I was so glad when I left. I still have dreams where I'm back there, and the noise goes through me like nails down a blackboard.

Nothing compared to most, but working retail at Jessops. The company had no respect for their staff and paid minimum wage to targeted sales staff, and expected a laughable amount of knowledge for zero motivation. Not at all surprised they went bust. Have worked other retail jobs, all of which were miles better.

I've had 15 jobs since leaving school, admittedly one only lasted a day, a few were summer uni jobs. Worst....probably working on the trains. Oh I worked for two weeks as a binman during uni summer ,actually not a bad job but rubbish money.

I did 3 weeks at McDonalds one summer when back from Uni until I walked out. Place was full of little chaps with a star, called a "fry Manager" who thought that meant they could treat you like dirt. I don't think they liked my can do attitude.

worst job is not having a job.

Yeah, spending all day on job boards and tweaking CVs is a real ball ache. At least you're your own boss though!

Worst job so far was as a manager in Currys. The pay was tragic, and the pressure to hit targets was extreme considering the meagre bonus you got if you did (£20-£100). Combine that with dealing with stupid/abusive punters, or having to sell products you knew were pointless or overpriced to nice people who didn't know better. Having to manage a team of minimum wage sales retards who didn't care. Ugh, so glad I left.
