I am just curious whether an upgrade is beneficial. The PC is mainly used for gaming.

I have the following;
i5 3570k
Gigabyte Z77-D3H board
GTX 980
16GB DDR3
250GB SSD

I look forward to your replies.

Res at 1080p. (May be changing monitor in future, so higher res is possible)

Mainly BF1, COD WWII, CSGO etc

how much do you want to spend? the most obvious choice is to dump a 3770k in lieu of the 3570k and then overclock it
and/or also a gpu like a 1080ti :P

Not necessarily slow down. Was just wondering whether my spec in the near future is likely to cause issues with these new, more demanding games.

I've always thought that the way to upgrade is when neccessary, PC gaming is so expensive as it is without trying to pre-empt the market and upgrade "in case"
I always try and compare PC gaming to console gaming (which is probably wrong) but your standard console tends to last 7-8 years and cost £500, why should PC gaming be so much more expensive ?

console coders get better at coding for that hardware over time- give them launch games they first made compared to games that make at the end of life and they probe could redo the first game massively with tricks learnt .
but they also compromise on a lot of stuff .

PC coding you have to build for everyone! but some choose to put real effort into pushing the boundaries- and with nvidia offering some series power - might as well do it .

plus console gamers now getting a feel of hi res gaming - once they are able to hit 60hz plus release why people have spent a lot on pc gaming :D

Is your 3750k overclocked? As others have suggested a used 3770k might be a good shout.

I would definitely overclock the 3570K instead of buying a 3770K. There is virtaully no difference in games with the 3770K yet the 3570K is very overclockable. Buy a better cooler ( assuming you don't have one already ) and you should be able to take it to 4.0+ GHz by simply changing the multiplier in the BIOS. No need for voltage changes! I mean it's a very overclockable chip. You could do that as a really easy project and it may cost as little as an evo 212 (£30).

agree with @Pocah , didn't realise that you haven't overclocked your 3570k yet. overclock it, see how you go along, if performance is still not satisfactory then plop in a 3770k

I'm currently on 2500k and I'm planning to upgrade this year but waiting on the new release of intels new chips.

I'm saving up money ready for it! Hopefully my CPU doesn't die sooner :(

I have a 3570k @ 4Ghz, 8Gb ram and just got a 1080ti and an acer 4k G sync monitor and I'm getting 60+ fps in Doom and Fallout 4 on ultra, unfortunately i have not played any recent AAA titles as i cant afford them yet xD
Personally i wouldn't buy a 3770k unless you can get one for sub £100, they currently go for about £160 on the bay, i have been watching for a while.

I cant imagine you have any performance issues with the setup you have at 1080p. If you do decide to go for a new monitor at a higher res then you may need to upgrade the gfx card if you either go for 1440p@120hz+ or 4k.

Ask yourself what you use it for. Some people will tell you to upgrade because your tech is lower tier/older but if you're playing on a 1080p screen with a 980 you should be pretty set. If you're planning on increasing to WQHD or UHD then you'll be looking for an upgrade.
