Even my old x2 3800 that cost me £100 August last year did 2.5GHz on stock volts, you'd have to have a really bad chip to not hit at least that![]()
Cheers. Should I go for an Opteron or normal X2. What steppings should I avoid.
I was in the same boat around 3 weeks ago.
My Opty 144 was running very happy at 2.6Ghz and if I was to buy a X2 3800 it would be a lottery to obtain the 2.6 GHz and be of any use.
Luckily though I found an Opteron 185, which is 2.6 GHz stock (same as FX 60) and I have noticed the difference.
Windows is much more responsive, I don't get lag or grinding to a halt in games when another app (mostly anti virus software) decided to run in the background.
It must also help in games as they are a little smoother and my Futuremark 3d-06 score jumped over 1200 points.
Still, I think I will be reverting back to the Opty 144 and sell the entire rig get the Q6600 Go-Slacker !!![]()
dont think you will find an opteron for sale except second hand...
How much would you want for your Opty if you decided to sell?
Around £110...its full retail & cost me £155 3 weeks agoI had a mad moment
but its the fastest stock socket 939 CPU you can buy !
Not too bad considering you can't get them on the Bay for less than £120 and an FX 60 (in essence the same chip) will set you back over £200
I didn't clock it...just have it at stock, 2.6 GHz the same as my single core Opty 144.
I haven't had the time I have become a father for the second time in recent weeks......I come to work for a rest
If I recall it is a good stepping so should have a bit of room for an OC probably 2.8 GHz quite easily.
My 170 was £150 when I bought it a few months ago but at least I got £70 for my x2 3800I would agree I bought a 175 for £75 quid
